Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

![]() Hello, Within the last week, I started experiencing *extremely* slow downloads that only register at 0 KB/s. Before that I was doing fine, with most things downloading at 10 KB/s or much faster. Now, only once or twice have I seen anything download at typical speeds (I've seen up to 17 KB/s once), but 99% of the time, things are hung up in "Connecting..." or are downloading but perpetually at 0 KB/s. I also get "Need More Sources" much more frequently than I remember, and "Connecting..." often comes right up after I double-click a result, but it stays that way for up to several minutes and never actually connects. I found this thread about 0-3 KB/s speeds that seemed similar to my issue, and I tried the recommendation in that thread by setting by reverting to Java 5 v12, setting up a static IP through my router and using port forwarding. The setup went OK, but didn't seem to have any effect. Here are my specs: 1. what OS version (eg: Windows 98, XP,OSX, Vista) ? Windows XP Professional, SP2 2. What firewalls you have ? Standard Windows XP Firewall only 3. How much ram ? 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) - plenty fast computer 4. Hard Disk space available ? 42.6 GB on my OS partition (C ![]() 5. Connection type (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) ? cable modem 6.Modem what brand name & model numbers ? Toshiba PCX1100U 7.Router brand name & model numbers ? Netgear RP614 v2 8. Where are you trying to connect from (house, apartment complex, school, student accommodation, work, etc.) ? apartment unit 9. What version,LimeWire & Java, are you using. Go to L/W's Help/About L/W, THIS show both LW & Java version.? Limewire 4.12.11, also tried FrostWire 4.13.1 Beta Java 1.5.0_12 10. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider) ? Road Runner (Time Warner) 11. Do this test click here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ should say 'Your test worked!. What happens ? Saw "Your test worked!!" 12. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I have a laptop connected via Ethernet cable to the same router as this PC; it also uses Limewire (4.12.06 I believe?) but the laptop is rarely used (maybe 2-3 times per week) 13. Is this your 1st try at LW, or is this a new problem with an experienced user.? new problem with experienced user 14. ![]() 1. Configure your XP firewall: Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) 2. When speeds suddenly drop like that it tends to suggest ISP shaping against p2p program bandwidth. Do a simple test for us; download a magnet link from the following link and tell us what happens in regards to connection & speed: + MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content |

![]() @Lord of the Rings: Thank you so much for your help! So, here's what I tried, and my results: - I spend some time tinkering with Windows XP firewall, and the first thing that I noticed was that (contrary to what I had originally thought) it wasn't actually even on! I do have ZoneAlarm installed, so I turned that off temporarily to eliminate the firewall from the equation. I still noticed the same download speed problem, though. - The magnet link worked just fine for me. LimeWire found 2 hosts almost immediately, and reached a maximum download speed of over 170 KB/s very quickly. I then thought that it might be the actual items that I was downloading that were causing the problem, and this theory actually seems to hold water. I tried downloading some different items at random, and I was able to get the old behavior back - I connected to hosts relatively quickly, and reached download speeds above 10 KB/s. Could it just have been the particular items that I was downloading? I found hundreds of results and potential hosts (many items having nearly 100 sources), but nearly all of them either stalled on "Connecting..." or started downloading, but maxed out at 0 KB/s and just trickled in. Thanks again for your help - please let me know if you think it could have just been the particular items that I was downloading that were causing the problem. |

![]() That cancels out your ISP being responsible then. Yes there's 2 causes I can think of: 1. Fake files; Beware of Fake files in search results (perhaps in some cases for you where you can't connect to host.) 2. Downloading from either dial up (or have greatly limited their upload speed) or those who are already maxed out uploading & don't have much left to spare, OR you are downloading from typical miserly clients such as Shareaza (RAZA). Since they use more than one network which requires them to use most of their upload bandwidth on those networks, it doesn't leave much over for gnutella. So typically they only give miserly speeds. Searching more hosts is best option. And also getting more results option. |
