Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Abarceo Yes, you can override the username and password but I won't tell you in the open forum, I'll PM you in a minute or two. Also, I hope you've got the user guide for the 585 because with it, even though it is slightly out of date, you will be completely lost. As you can imagine, I took some time to get to know what was in the manual and what the modem could and could not do, as well as take advice from other web sites about the security features I should initiate. All in all, the 585 is a complicated beast but once tamed it purrs like a contented cat. UK Bob |

I got already the new username & password, and configured as it was before. Thanks for that. I want to reconfigure the way you did on your ST585v6. Maybe I can do it by my own, but seems it will take much time for me to study & researching with trial and error to completely understand. As you know, I just learned what is the meaning of IP address...and so fort. So, basically I am zero. To minimize time and effort, can you please give me some shortcut tips detailing the configuration which I can apply directly. What is important to me now is how to get direct connection between PC to PC, considering that I planned also to use 2 telephones with built-in modem (for DSL connection) between two location. This is only possible if IP address can be directly accessed without firewall. |

Abarceo Glad to know that you've got into the configuration part of your 585 (v6) modem. Now, as I explained before, I don't think that direct connection is possible with any Thomson SpeedTouch modem except the ST330 but, as far as I understand, you can't use an Internet phone with that model. However, I have been talking to a work colleague that has a friend that regularly communicates with China via an Internet phone. She gets in touch with her friends and relatives via Skype, and I think that will be the answer you are looking for. Here is the URL for Skype, you should be able to find all the answers you want: Try calling landlines or mobiles with SkypeOut, for free As for any other configuration problems you may have, let me know and I will send you a screen print of my configuration page. Skype solve my problem regarding my VOIP (PC to PC). It will be more appreciated if you can send me the print of the configuration page you mentioned. My LW is still firewalled and strongly in need to enable direct connections. As an alternative to my VOIP, I still want to configure my phone box which will be connected to one of my ST585 ports requiring DHCP (type of LAN that assigns IP addresses automatically). Is ST585 assigns IP addresses automatically? My Local Area Connection Status under tab support/details are: IP Address : 192.168.1.84 (not the real one) Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway : 192.168.1.254 DHCP Server : 192.168.1.254 DNS Server : 192.168.1.254 When I checked the assigned IP address in my phonebox(voice message), I got 192.168.1.85(one point higher). Can it be assumed that my network DHCP Server assigns IP addresses automatically? I checked the other ports & same IP addresses (192.168.1.85) have been assigned. Going back to my ST585 configuration, 10.0.0.138 (web browser configuration) or any one of the above numbers are not recognized by my Windows Internet Explorer (provided by yahoo). So I am facing problem in browsing 10.0.0.138 to configure my ST585 & 192.168.1.83 (IP address required) to configure my phonebox. I only reconfigured my ST585 using CD provided that maybe outdated. Hoping to hear more from you UK Bob. |

Abarceo You say your LW is firewalled, so its not "Direct Connection" your after but "Port Forwarding". Once you have port forwarded your modem then the firewall will disappear. This URL will tell you how to Port Forward your modem: Port Forwarding for the Thomson/Alcatel SpeedTouch 585i OK, I have also attached a screen print of my port forwarded configuration screen. That should be all you need to get LW working with your modem. UK Bob PS. I did not use a static IP address to get port forwarding to work, if you check my previous post you will see that my IP configuration with XP is set to receive any address my ISP sends. |

Getting into your Modems configuration Controls Abarceo First of all, the "username & password" pop-up box will not appear unless you have been into the controls beforehand and set a password. Secondly, you don't necessarily need the IP address to access the configuration settings, but I must admit that I bookmarked my configuration's home page as I was installing the modem. Therefore, to get past the initial problem I think you have one of two ways to go. a) Re-install your modem but bookmark your configuration's home page the first chance you get OR b) Send an email to Thomson-SpeedTouch explaining that you cannot get into your configuration controls because you do not have the default IP address for your modem (they may need the serial number). You may also want to mention that someone else set up your modem for you and neglected to bookmark the IP address and/or URL. Hope this helps UK Bob PS. I'm afraid that the IP addresses I have access to will not work for you. PPS. Get in touch with Thomson directly, not the importers of the modem. |

Forget my last post. Actually I cancelled it so that you will not be able to access it. I was not be able to browse 192.169.1.254 because of my LAN setting problem. Now it's OK. I am still working on it (port forwarding). I go back to you for any development. Thank you... |

My LW is still FIREWALLED. I've done it exactly the way it was presented. 1. I Assigned new port (between 10000-60000) applied for both (with clicked)Manual Port Forward & Listen on Port. 2. Same Port number has been applied in the box next to "LimeWire's Port for incoming connections." 3. Down the "Do not skip this step" I entered one of the new Static IP Address taken from the series of the Static IP Addresses generated after entering Default Gateway & Current IP Address. 4. Browsed 192.168.1.254 and the Speed Touch Thomson ST585 appeared. In the toolbox, I assigned & created a "new game or application" & "Assigned a game or application to a local network device." 5. In the Defined Games & Applications; a) "ABC (Another Bittorent Client) Assigned to Unknown-00-0a-e6-e8- 01-d2" (my computer) ABC (Another Bittorent Client) ProtocolPort RangeTranslate To ...Trigger ProtocolTrigger Port TCP 6881 - 6889 6881 - 6889-- Unknown-000a-e6-e8-01-d2 Information Status: Active Type: Generic Device Connected To: WLAN (Wireless) Allowed on WLAN: Yes Addressing Physical Address: 00:0a:e6:e8:01:d2 IP Address Assignement: Static IP Address: 192.168.1.138 (same as my new IP Address in my TCP/IP b) Lime Wire (assigned new name) is also on the list with assigned port number ProtocolPort RangeTranslate To ...Trigger ProtocolTrigger Port TCP10201 - 1020110201 - 10201-- UDP10201 - 1020110201 - 10201-- I don't know if these results are correct, though I assumed I did it correctly. Tomorrow, I will try to checked again my firewall setting (microsoft, anti-virus & etc.) though I am a little bit sure of the correct settings. If I have only the ST330, I can eliminate which firewall is giving problem to my LW. Last edited by abarceo; July 15th, 2007 at 09:29 PM. |

YES!!! I DID IT...My LW is now working in DIRECT CONNECT. Thank you very much UK Bob & also want to thank Lord of the Rings. But, I just want to mention that a little modification on the port setting have been made. In the "Defined Games & Applications", below figures were generated. a) ABC (Another Bittorent Client) ProtocolPort Range.....Translate To ...Trigger ProtocolTrigger Port TCP... 6881 - 6889.....6881 - 6889..............-................- b) Lime Wire (assigned new name) is also on the list with assigned port number of 10201 ProtocolPort Range......Translate To ...Trigger ProtocolTrigger Port TCP10201 - 10201.......10201 - 10201..........-............-............ UDP10201 - 10201.......10201 - 10201..........-............-............ I changed the port setting that is within the range between 6881-6889. That is, 6882 has chosen & also been applied in my LW manual port forward & listen on port. ProtocolPort Range.......Translate To ...Trigger ProtocolTrigger Port TCP10201 - 6882...........6882 - 6882.........-.............-............. UDP10201 - 6882...........6882 - 6882.........-.............-............. That's it. again thank you... |
