How To Determine My Own Host Number I am using ADSL connection. Clicking my Local Area Connection Status under Support Tab shows IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. My IP address is 192.168.1.103. Assuming this is my host number:192.168.1.103:45149, where can I get the extension number highlighted in red? |

I got it. Thanks for the info. My next problem is that I can browse some hosts using Direct Connect but mine is not available to them. I am using LW Pro but above the Direct Connect Box, it is mentioned like this: Your computer is behind a firewall or router and cannot receive direct connections. I put off my Windows Firewall already but to no avail. Any suggestion on how to enable receiving direct connections? I am using Speedtouch ADSL Modem with four ports and one wireless. At present, only one PC is connected using one port. |

1. Can you specify exactly which models of conntection devices you are using? Knowing that will help us determine if you need to do anything special with any of them such as port forwarding. 2. Did you configure your software firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link) 3. Thompson Speedtouch ADSL Modem Abarceo I use one of thse modems as well, it has a built in NAT firewall which can only be completely turned off by using command-line commands, i.e. from the DOS prompt. I think it is unlikely that you can direct connect using this type of modem simply because of the way the NAT firewall works, that is it will reject any incoming communication from the internet that you did not initiate. That means if you did not specifically request it, a web page, download, etc., the NAT firewall will naturally reject it. Therefore, since you cannot initiate someone to Direct Connect to you from your PC the NAT firewall will not accept or let through such communication from an outside PC. There maybe a technical way around this but I presume you will have to contact the Thompson-Speedtouch technical helpdesk to find out. UK Bob |

Thomson-Speedtouch Modems Abarceo I currently use the ST510v6 but I do have the ST585v6 which I will be installing next week, the plan is to have the modem connected by wire to my PC while my two sons connect to this modem wirelessly. In order to remain secure I am going to initiate the WPA encryption, which I understand is the best encryption a home user can have. UK Bob |

UK Bob So you think ST585v6 modem is not the problem causing my connection FireWalled? This model is utilizing UPnP. I even tried this: Network Connections/Advance/Optional Networking Components/Networking Services/enabled or checked UPnP User Interface. Still my LW is FireWalled, though I have a Turbo-Charge Connection. I am still working with the suggestion of Lord of the Ring. My installed anti-virus is Kaspersky6.0. I tried checking the setting to include LW in the exceptions but I can't find it. The settings is only limited to allow which port has to be scanned for virus. I tried adding and removing LW with its port to no success. I also tried to disconnect (exit) my anti-virus with no positive result. |

Promlem with Thomson-Speedtouch modems Abarceo Quote:
I'll explain, your modem, like mine, has a built in NAT firewall which is difficult to turn off, you can only use command-line commands. Also, the UPnP implementation in the Thomson-Speedtouch modems don't seem to work with the LW implementation, so the only choice you have is to "Port Forward" your modem. Now, it took me about two or so months before I could get "Port Forwarding" to work and even then I only succeeded because a forum member from Australia sent me the instructions. Unfortunately, at the moment I am at work and the forum member concerned is on holiday. However, if you want to know how to exactly port forward your modem let me know and I will send you the instructions over the weekend. As for direct connections, I am not sure that you can direct connect with a Thomson-Speedtouch modem, especially as UPnP does not work the way it should. Hence, my advice to contact the technical helpdesk and find out from them whether or not it is possible. Finally, most anti-virus apps do not have firewalls installed so there will not be a way to let LW through but some have an anti-worm feature that may block LW, if your AV does have this feature then temporarily turn it off.
