help (need more sources)

Hello:idea:! I am a new user of Lime Wire Pro and I have very big problem to find sources to download the songs I like.It always says "need for more sources" or "wait for sources" and nothing happens. Can anyone tell me why is this happening and what should I do?

You are probably getting a heap of fake file results...
Have a look at this thread it will explain how to avoid them...

can get 'need more sources' to go away

Ok...I've read through the forums and have found many different "solutions" to the 'connecting/need more sources' problem. I call them "solutions" because they work for other people, but not for me. Here's my info:

1. OS version? - Windows XP SP2

2. What firewalls you have? - Zonealarm and Sygate (both configured to allow limwire)

3. How much ram? - 1024 MB

4. Hard Disk space available? - 10 GB

5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) - Cable

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? - Wireless router, NetGear WPN824

7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? - house

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. - LW=4.12.11, Java=1.5.0_03

9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? - Earthlink

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? - "Your test worked!"

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. - Yes, 1 other computer on the wireless network.

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. - I'm an experienced user and this problem has just recently occurred.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? - I do, and I don't know how to get rid of it (even after following the instructions from other links around the forums).

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? - Yes, my router and computer are set up for UPnP. I also tried port forwarding, but I didn't see any difference.

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall. - Avast! antivirus and McAfee Antivirus

16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). - USA

I will also note that, yes, I have tried deleting the preferences folder, .limewire, etc., and I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the new and old versions of limewire and java. The files I am trying to download are not fake. I am using the basic version of limewire btw.

This problem just happened randomly. One day I was downloading and uploading just fine. The next day I couldn't get any connections at all. :(

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

You shouldn't have two firewalls or two Anti-Viruses running...They will clash with each other and leave you unprotected...

Try unistalling One of each and then see if your problems are still occuring...

well...i know for a fact that this is not the issue because:
1. I've had 2 of each for well over 2 years now and limewire had no trouble with any of it.
2. I've tried uninstalling one, the other...and both...and it still hasn't made a difference.

This is why I'm so confused
Nothing that I seem to do has any effect...

AAAHH HAAA! I figured it out! It was the avast! antivirus, not the firewalls. Avast has a P2P shield that prevents anything incoming or outgoing for P2P. After I disabled that, limewire worked again. Just thought I'd let you know that the problem is solved. But now I'm wondering why limewire didn't work even after I uninstalled both the firewalls and antivirus software. Ah well...at least it works.

I don't think that's it...I have Advast and my p2p shield is running..That shield is for scanning the files that you receive from limewire, so I would personally keep it running if I where you...

ok, so you have it too...if you open the On-Access Protection Control you'll find a list of all the things that avast! protects against. The P2P shield, for me, blocks connections to the Gnutella network. All I did was disable this feature (and only this feature) and limewire worked again. Any file that I download is still scanned separately. For me, this is a win-win situation.
