LW functions on Virgin Media network (wired) but not on Talk Talk (wireless router)!! Hello. This is the first time I have ever posted a thread in my life lol so bear with me - but i assure you i do have some experience with computers. When I connect my old NTL (Virgin Media) modem (broadband - cable) to my computer i am able to connect to LW fast, download at high speeds, upload at high speeds and get lot's of search results. Then, without changing ANY settings, when I disconnect the modem and connect my Wireless Router (Talk Talk broadband - ADSL) I can connect but slower, it takes ages to find search results, i can only download at about 4KB/s at maximum. The thing is though, nothing has changed, I have used Talk Talk wireless router for over a year and I updated to Vista about 4 months ago with no problems. So this has suddenly happened. I thought it might be the PC, so i tried to use limewire on my laptop (xp - wireless) but the same thing happens there. So bascialy, limewire performs well on a modem but not a router. I even phoned Talk Talk and they told me my internet connection was working properly. Any ideas? Please Help... EDIT: i found out that the reason it worked on Virgin Media's modem was because it didn't jhave a built in firewall, where as my Talk Talk wireless Router did have a build in firewall taht was intergrated into the router, therefore my disableing this it let me do anything i wanted. I tried to forward the ports for limewire but without sucession. I phoned Talk Talk and they said that it would be safe as long as i had a firewall on Windows itself. A reliable one. I have Norton 2007 on one and Windows OneCare on the other. There was also something called the "NAT" (Network Address Translation) and this provides minimu firewall sucurity that is also built into the router therefore i do still have some protection but Talk Talk said I had to keep this on anyway otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect to the Internet. It would seem that the problem is your isp. Talk Talk is known to cause problems with p2p apps. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-talktalk.html http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...-limewire.html
