Same problem with mine. My download bandwidth plays between 10 to 15KB/s only.
My PC system are as follow:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) XP pack2
2. What firewalls you have? Windows
3. How much ram? 480MB
4. Hard Disk space available? 13.8GB drive(C) (LW installed). Shared files in drive D with available space of 15.7GB.
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 128KB/s
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Speedtouch 585v6
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)?
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW-4.12.3 Pro, Java 1.6.0_02
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? ARABSWELL
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Your test worked
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. NO
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 2-months now
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Just recently cleared (thanks to UK Bob)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/attach...1&d=1158099342
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Port forwarding
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall Kaspersky (no firewall)
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland) Saudi Arabia

I tried java version 1.5 to no avail. There are instances that my LW is not responding (something like paused). When recovered, my download bandwidth stays at 32KB/s for few seconds then it starts to reduce until 10 to 15KG/s only.

Could you try downloading a file from here and tell me what speed you get...
+ MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content

Also could you do a speed test...
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Downloading from 1 host, speed is between 6-8KB/s (downloading alone)

Also could you do a speed test...
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

A) Down Load = 126KB/s & Up Load = 51KB/s (no LW downloading)
B) Down Load = 60KB/s & Up Load = 48KB/s (with LW downloading at bandwidth of 13KB/s)

Hi Abarceo

I see that you are having certain problems which maybe caused by your ISP.

Anyway, two things that jump out at me could be clues to your current predicament:

You said:
Quote:

and
Quote:
A) Down Load = 126KB/s & Up Load = 51KB/s (no LW downloading)
B) Down Load = 60KB/s & Up Load = 48KB/s (with LW downloading at bandwidth of 13KB/s)
This suggests to me that your ISP, ARABSWELL, has probably installed "Bandwidth Shaping" equipment (aka P2P Throttling).

What this equipment does is heavily curtail P2P use while allowing other internet traffic through unhindered. If I am correct, and depending on how aggressive your ISP is in regards to P2P traffic, you could find that you can use LW at certains times when P2P throttling is toned down or switched off.

However, from what you have said your ISP is throttling your P2P connection aggressively but not to the extent where you can't use LW.

If you can, I would suggest that you ask your ISP if they are partially or fully curtailing P2P traffic on the internet. If they are only partially curtailing its use then when is the best time for P2P usage.

Good Luck

UK Bob

How are you Bob? Nice to hear from you again.

Actually, I am happy using my LW without firewall and served me with my main purpose. Of course if there is a way to increase my download bandwidth, I can say it's perfect...

Well at present, I am still working with the foregoing suggestions by our friends here. I am almost done from using the java 1.5, deleting limewire in my documents & settings, changing compatibility setting, and switching to administrator as current user. Though I didn't try java 1.4 yet, the result is still NEGATIVE and no improvement.

If my ISP(ARABSWELL) is using bandwidth shaping equipment, I think it is continuously used or switched "ON". Since I started using LW (24hrs a day), my download bandwidth is always within 10 to 15KB/s only. Therefore, I better try another ISP keeping in mind to get rid of the bandwidth shaping thing.

In addition to the above, when I am downloading files from any other sites, my download speed starts at 40KB/s then continuously dropping at 13KB/s. If this hold the case, same thing is happening to my LW. I may say that the settings of my LW has nothing to do with the bandwidth.

I'll keep in touched for any development and hoping to hear more from you.

In addition to my previous reply, when I tried java 1.4, my download bandwidth is swinging from 0 to 27KB/s. But most of the time, it stays nearly 15KB/s. This morning, my Bandwidth has a steady state at 14KB/s. I made some experiments and these are the result:
My maximum simultaneous download is set at 8.
1. 14KB/s is shared by 8 simultaneous downloads
2. 14KB/s is shared by 4 simultaneous downloads (4 downloads are paused)
3. 8KB/s is shared by 2 simultaneous downloads (6 downloads are paused). download speed drops maybe due to availability from the hosts.

With these results and from my previous reply, I strongly believe that there is no problem with my LW. As what UK Bob commented, my ISP might be the problem. I'll try to ask some of my friends here using the same LW with different ISP. This might be the answer.
