wondering why July 21st, 2007 02:12 AM

Could you try downloading one of these magnetmix files, so I can see if it is your ISP shaping your connection...
+ MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content

Also I don't know if this will improve your speed issue but your Java is very outdated...
Uninstalling your Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....

i tried downloading from magnetmix , and nothing happened . it kept on saying need more sources. i re installed the current java , and nothing changed .

Remoc July 21st, 2007 05:53 AM

Hey Doug, I'm with WW here, not sure it will make a lot of difference but I read your 3 previous threads that you started and I noticed in each one of them you had a different version of Java. Are you deleteing the ones that your not using?? Try deleteing all versions except the one your going to stick with. Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Hope this helps

doug54 July 21st, 2007 08:12 PM

yeah i tought it might have been java giving me problems so i tried a few different versions . i've got 1.5.0_11 now , and i have deleted all other versions .i can't get a connection to magnetmix . once i try to download it just says ' need more sources " until i give up . i am sharing 5002 files , will that slow my dowload speed . and i also have no uploads . is this a problem with my isp or lime wire . i did a speedtest and i'm capable of 256kb/s , why isn't anything uploading.

Remoc July 21st, 2007 08:49 PM

Doug, this is a shot in the dark but have you checked your upload settings? Go to Tools > Options > Uploads > Basic > set upload bandwith to about 90%. Then go to Slots and set Max upload slots to 5. Click apply and OK. Just a suggestion.

Sounds like it might very well be your ISP.

Remoc July 22nd, 2007 08:12 AM

Hey Doug, I also went to Magnetmix and got the "need more sources". I'm a little  now because I have never experianced this from that site. I very rarely have any trouble dn/lding anything. Just FYI

doug54 July 22nd, 2007 08:57 PM

i applied the settings to uploads and no changes

Hi Doug54.
Look on the bottom or side of your modem/router for the make & model numbers
We need them to help.please

also try using limewire out of peak times, to see if it works better then & post results.

P.S Is this a typing error "broadband 1 gb/ sec connection"
Do you mean 1meg ?
Peace.

doug54 July 23rd, 2007 01:38 PM

there is alot of numbers and writing on the bottom of the modem.
i'm not sure if all the information is correct.

thank you for your help .
i'm sorry my info is so vague , as my internet connection has just changed a few months ago . and it was fine until a few weeks ago .

doug54 July 24th, 2007 10:36 AM

mickjapa108 July 25th, 2007 04:06 AM

Hi Doug.
Sorry late reply the forum would'nt let me sign in yesterday.
Cant find any info on your modem/router.

Lets just try this. if no joy we will try a clean sweep.

Universal Plug and Play may not be working properly Due to this update. "Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261)"
Removing this update is not Recommended & could make your computer vulnerable to attack.
For more info on this update, click on this blue link.
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-019: Vulnerability in Universal Plug and Play Could Allow Remote Code Execution (931261)

If this update is installed on your computer & UPnP is in use by Limewire,
Try switching to Manual Port forward using port numbers between 45000 To 65000
Both Manual Port forward No, & listening port should be set at the same number
In LimeWire, GO to Tools/Options/Advanced/Firewall Config & use Manual Port forward.

If you are using a router, or modem/router to connect, that will also need configuring.
Find your router listed here, Use this blue link. & dont forget to create a static IP first, & click apply after changing each setting.
PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall
Your Servant,
Peace.

doug54 July 25th, 2007 11:38 AM

i tried changing from port number 45000 and 65000 a few times , with no changes .
i can't find anything on the modem either and i have contacted my isp .
is there any last ditch effort i could try,
thyanks for your help.

mickjapa108 July 27th, 2007 10:26 AM

Hi Doug.
Please forgive me for being inattentive Doug, I'm just so busy at present

What we need to do is start with a clean sheet.
Sounds like things have become jumbled.

Follow these instructions exactly.
So, you need to Go, Start/All Programs/LimeWire n Uninstall all L/W versions.
Do Not Uninstall From Change or Remove Programs.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW
Now Go to, Start/Search/click on all files n folders/more advanced options/
& make sure, case sensitive, is not ticked. (all other boxes should be ticked)

Now!!, Put "limewire" in box, (all or part of file name) & click search.
Delete everything found, including Prefetch folder, (I mean everything)
If you have used older versions of limewire.
Then repete search putting ".limewire", the dot is important
When all L/W files are deleted.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.
Now! Go to,
START/Set Program Access/Change or Remove Programs,
now completely remove all versions of java.
Re BOOT Your computer NOW.

Now! Use this Blue Link to get "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12" Use the off line installer, NOT the (recommended) one, 4th one down.
Java SE Downloads - Previous Release - JDK 5
When Download is completed.
Disconnect from internet, close ALL apps n reinstall java.

Now!! Use this link to download latest L/W version using the off line installer
LimeWire
If you need help, Shout, If it fixed your problem or not, Feedback helps others.:super:

P.S....I would use manual port faward, UPnP is a pain in the assp for many.
Peace
