2 days ago I finally purchased Limewire Pro, to see how fast download could get.

With Limewire free I used to download up to 180/190 kbs max, so that was nice.

Now with Limewire Pro, download speeds started out really slow (2 to 20 kbs max) then dramatically increased today up to 250/290 kbs max) even though I be downloading several things at once.

The strange thing is, all of a sudden all speeds are going to dramatically drop to 0, stay at 0 for a while and eventually go back up, but now they don't exceed 20 kbs max, even though for approximately 15 minutes prior to that, they were up to 250 kbs.

BTW, I get turbo charge (5 blue bars) all the time...

Can anyone tel me why the speeds oscillates so dramatically and what I can do so they stay up all the time? I have a broadband ethernet connection, and my isp apparently does not throttle p2p traffic...

Just strange,

I just restarted Limewire Pro, now all my seven simultaneous downloads do not go over 10 kbs. Then they all drop to 0. When they go again after 10/15 secs, the highest was 48 kbs. And then all back down to below 10 kbs. Do you guys reckon that my isp is behind these oscillations? I don't see how it could be otherwise...

And btw, I download from 7/10 users, so that's not the problem...

Although your ISP does not throttle P2P traffic they can initiate a kind of selective throttling because I get the same kind of thing. I can get burst of speeds of up to 300+ kbs and settled speeds of about 150kbs but it will after a time go down to zero then after a few minutes back up to a sustained 150kbs and so on.

I think, but can't prove, that ISP do this to share out their bandwidth and, hand on heart, say that they do not throttle P2P. Because non-throttling ISPs know that a lot of their current customers have transfered over to them from ISPs that do throttle P2P activity and they do not want to alienate or loose their P2P using customers, hence partial throttling.

Thanks UK Bob. The thing is, my min. download speed now is not 150kbs (i'd be happy if it was) but under 10kbs. And that sucks.

Btw, I'm in France and my isp is 9telecom. Are there known technical reasons (and their resolutions of course), independent of any isp, on why download speeds can go from 300kbs+ to 0kbs then not over 10kbs, or not?

Yes, there are problems but I'm not sure if they have solutions, for example, if the network traffic is particularly heavy you will find that your downloads behave like cars in a traffic jam. All this is also coupled with the distance you are from your connecting telephone exchange and the state of your local network infrastructure.

Obviously the above problems cannot be cured by anything you can do simply because they are outside of your control.

However, I would suggest you try TweakMaster, it may help with some of your connection/speed problems.

Thanks a lot for trying to help me Bob, I really appreciate it. I had alread installed and used "Connection booster" without much result. I'll try tweaking around with the master, see if it changes.

Here is how LW Pro behavior now: downloads files at 10kb/s maximum for a while, then all of a sudden drops all downloads to 0kb/s and stays there for 15/30 secs, then downloads speeds shoot up again at 80kb/s max but just for a few seconds, then are brought back down to 10kb/s max. And it does this in a cycle. It's really depressing, and I have no idea what to do to improve this.

As a side note, has my computer (Portable PB Pentium 4, 3ghz processing speed and 80gb hard drive space) been getting slow and often stuck with blue screens since I have resumed my downloading activities!...
