Question download stops and starts

Hi

Why is it that when I download a file it starts then after a few seconds it stops downloading the seconds start ticking off and then it resumes the downloading then stops, seconds start ticking off then the download resumes again. This can continually happen with any given file. Then sometimes, when it has done this stop start malarky it says " couldn't down load" I click resume and the download resumes and then we are into the stop start issue again. This doesn't happen with every file, perhaps 1 out of every 6 or 7.

Default It may be...

Maybe the one that you're downloading from him clicks "Kill Upload", and then, thanks to "Smart downloading", LimeWire retries, and after it's connected again, the uploader clicks the button again, and again.
After LimeWire stops trying, it shows "Couldn't download", then you click "Force Resume", and it connects again...

That's just a theory, maybe your version has some technical dificulties.

No, I think not...

I think that Limewire have problems with firewalled servers but I am not sure about this...

So wait for the developers!

Hi Morgwen.....

I am new to this downloading lark ( i wonder why we say this - just in case the question makes us out to be a real dummy perhaps - oh yes i think that could well be the case)

I digress - do you mean "wait till the developers read my post - yeah i think i am special:-) or do you mean wait till the devlopers "fix" this firewall server thingy?

fanx

I can't tell what you mean by start and stop as in download goes to 0 K/s and then up again, or if it alternates between downloading and Connecting to v.w.x.y [z seconds]. For the first problem see this post for possible reasons that are in addition to dimagor's theory:

For the second problem, I think it has do with the sender's Upload window saying Transfer Interrupted numerous times for a file while the file downloads a small portion at a time automatically. Later LimeWire versions have this problem but I don't know if it got fixed in the 2.x versions. It seems that the Mac version has this problem more and you may be able to tell yourself. If the names of the files that are stopping and starting are cut off at 31 characters then it is likely that you are downloading from a Mac.
