incoming searches I am fairly new to limewire and a complete idiot when it comes to computers but here goes. I am using lime wire pro with my home computer, windows xp. I downloaded some video files over the weekend with no problems. Tonight I tried to search and the results came up with over 20 host but never got over 3kb for the download speed. While trying to find the problem, I checked the "show incoming searches" box and it was scrolling through incoming searches faster than I could read them, I'm guessing that where my problem is. My stepdaughter was on some other share sites over the weekend and I don't know if she clicked something she shouldn't have or not. How do I stop the hundreds of incoming searches coming through my computer. HEEEEELP!:bangh: |
If you saw heaps of incoming connections (more than usual), you were probably connected as an ultrapeer. Ultrapeers handle more network traffic than leaves & shield leaves (people with slower connections, firewalls etc) from unnecessary traffic. LW decides who connects as an ultrapeer...if the network needs ultrapeers & you have a fast connection & aren't firewalled then you'll automatically connect as an ultrapeer. GnuFU en - Gnufu It's nothing to worry about;) & shouldn't result in slow download speeds. Who is your ISP...some ISPs will shape p2p bandwidth at certain times of day, or if you're deemed to be a 'heavy user'. You can disable ultrapeer capabilities if you want to. In LW tools > options > advanced > performance, tick the box to disable ultrapeer capabilities > apply > ok. Or, if you're using an older version of LW tools > options > speed & you'll see the option to disable there. |
first of all thanks for your quick reply. While I was waiting I went into my documents and settings and found a "torrent portal" file that was 407 bytes. and I swear the cookies were increasing as I watched. We had subscribed to a website a few weeks ago, Express Movie downloads. I couldn't get the hang of it so went back to LW. My stepdaughter went onto that account while she was here looking for a video file and I did see she was on different sites every time I walked by her. Do you have any idea how I can stop whatever that torrent portal is doing in my computer. I have comcast DSL, I don't think they can deem me a heavy user. Up to this weekend I don't usually download anything or even use the computer that much. |
Without becoming a member , there's no way for me to know what software may have been installed on your computer from Express Movie Downloads. Did you install any programs from the website? If it were me, I'd remove any software that was installed. I'd suggest you update your AV program & scan your computer! Also scan for spyware & adware...if you don't have them already, Spybot & Ad-Aware are good & both are free. Spybot S & D (free) Ad-Aware SE Personal (free) According to the Express Movie Downloads FAQ, you're entitled to a refund of you ask within 60 days of purchase;) |
