Strange Uploader :confused:Hello, I've recently purchased pro and it works wonderfully and my downloads are very fast, however every so often the speed drops and my computer connection slows down, it did this a couple of times and then I checked the 'monitor' tab and find out that someone (not sure if it is protocol to give name) is uploading one of my files at an incredible speed and it seems at the expense of my downloading speed. What, if anything can I do about it, e.g. filter etc. Sorry if I'm pedantic, I'm not very computer savvy! Any help very much appreciated!:o |
here's how downloading works...you send a signal saying you want the file, the host sends you a piece of the file and awaits a return signal saying you got that piece (packet) before it sends the next packet...if your upstream bandwidth is being maxed out then the sending of the acknowledgment that you got the part of the file is delayed, which can massively slow your download speeds...you should be able to go into LW's settings and limit your upstream bandwidth which should allow some headroom so that your downloads aren't crippled |
Thank you Peerless, actually I have restricted the uploads to 10 max (and there is about 10 waiting) and they don't have a huge download spead, whereas this uploader seems to appear out of nowhere, and downloads one of my files in about 30 seconds where the others are waiting for ages, is that normal? |
Depends on the particular program vendor. Check what program they are using. Right click the top of the columns & choose to show type/vendor so it shows which program they are using. Some programs out there are too aggressive & don't stick to gnutella protocol. They bump others out of the way to get to the top of the downloading list (your upload queue). If it's a known bad gnutella program, I think you could right-click them & choose ban. I may be wrong. |
Thanks, that sounds like it! What I've done is taken their host number, and put it on the filter list to be banned. Hopefully it's only one user, but I will follow your advice if it happens again. Thanks again for your help. |
