Disappearing Downloads

I had 3 downloads going and they were at 60-70% complete. I shutdown my computer for the day. The next day, when I opened limewire, I got an error message that said something like we can cannot continue your previous downloads. WHAT!! I am using dial-up and my time is precious. Now, the files are still on my computer in the incomplete folder. Do I really have to start all over again? We are talking about hours of download time. somebody please help.

Sonya, sorry to here that. Can you tell us what kind of files these are. I'm just thinking they may be fake files. If they are video files then you can use Bitzi to check them before you download. See Links below for more info.

Look up the files with Bitzi before downloading to help sort out the bad ones.

See: Recognising Fake files

And for tips on finding good files, see: How to find music.

Hope this helps. :D

One of the files was "*******" music video and the other was a game, "*******" they are both in my incomplete folder and I have watched most of the ******* video. So they are not fake. Any other suggestions?

The music video May not be a fake, but I almost guarantee you that the Game is a Fake. If you want to follow my advice here, I may be able to save you some grief. There are Bad file extensions that are nothing but Fakes, Viruii, worms, and a number of other things that can cause problems. It is not advisible to download Programs or Games from P2P.

To Filter these Bad extensions, go to Tools > Options > Filters > Keywords. Now add the following extensions including the dot. .exe, .rar, .wma, .zip, .mov. Click Apply and OK. This will also clean up a Ton of Junk while searching. If you decide you Don't want to block a certain extension then go back and Unblock it. Try this, I think you'll like it. :D

I would delete the Game and start over with the music video. AVI Files are probably the safest Video files. MPG, and MP4 May be OK but I would SCAN EVERY File with your AV before Opening. Hope this helps.

I appreciate you advice and I did go in and exclude those extensions. However, that does not solve the problem of the partial downloads. They are still there in the incomplete folder. I started the video over, and now it is showing at twice its file size! I had 2 other partial videos as well and they are showing twice the file size too. What does that mean? Will I be able to burn them? I noticed that this problem occurred shortly after updating my limewire to 4.14. Is this a bug of some kind? Should I re-install the old version? Thanks for your help.

PS when I finished the video, it said "file corrupted" although it plays fine. ???

File corruption can represent many things. For a start, it means the finished download file does not 100% match with the original hash of the file that you download the moment you chose to download the file. It can be as simple as description of file not matching original or could be more severe such as packets of data not matching which means at some point in playing it may have some problems. At this point I wouldn't worry about it. :)

Doesn't anyone know how to get back these partial downloads? There has to be some way. No one answered my previous question about version 4.14 having a bug causing this problem. Should I roll back to the previous version?
