Most UPloads going 'complete' before 100%

As explained in 'BearShare Lite killing' about ten hours ago, most of my music UPloads reach 50 to 98% before the dreaded 'complete' pops up. For those UPloading from me, it must be infuriating, and quite a few keep trying to get to 100% complete...one person tried to UPload same song 23 times over an entire day and could NOT get past 94%, while a few got 100% on first attempt. With my slow upload of 14KB's per sec have limited slots to two or three in past months. A few minutes ago limited UPload slot to ONE, to see if that helps. This is thwarting my attempt to share a great music collection for at least 60 hours a week, much of which came from downloading songs from fellow LWire users. Have already spent hours reading about proper settings in Forum and believe they are correct...however, maybe have missed something crucial! Some advice please. caseybob

It sounds like your setup is good. The uploaded files that are complete but aren't at 100% just means they got the rest of the file from someone else. Most of the time when you d/load a file, you get it from more than one host and that's what's happening there. The percentage shown is just the percent of the file they got from you.

I have my upload bandwidth set so I give about 5KB/s per upload slot. So having two slots open sounds about right. If you make it too high, you'll have a lot of people queued but the uploads will be too slow.

Not sure what to do about bearshare lite. I imagine they are sharing files too. So blocking their ip addresses might not be a good idea.

Your reply answered most of my questions in both posts, and many thanks. Knew that members contribute parts to one upload, so should have figured that 'complete' at less than 100% was not a problem that bugged me for weeks. Only small question remaining; why is Bear Share getting a lot more 100% (i.e.- all from me) than most LW users? If you know or have good guess, let me know. caseybob

To 6_pac and others about 'complete' at under 100%

Despite my earlier thanks reply, over last few days thought it strange that if your explanation ABOVE is true, WHY would most UPloaders showing 'complete' at less than 100%, STILL keep trying to get the same song???
Logically, they have NOT received the rest of it from other LW users, or I would not see repeated attempts from same ISP to get to 'complete' at 100% (many are stuck at 70 to 98% and it wastes everybody's time & bandwidth). Thanks for your help in the past and hope you or other experienced members can come up with an answer & hopefully, a cure. Best regards, caseybob

1. Make sure you don't see a brick wall icon at bottom of your LW. If you do that means there's something causing a firewall effect making it difficult for people to upload from you.

2. Make sure the files are properly described. If mp3's, then make sure they have plenty of id3 tag information. Else, add good description via your LW Library window. Select the file(s) & press Describe button. That helps them be found in searches. Searches can link to description words too. ;) You will need to Refreshen after doing this. Once you do this, you will notice your files will receive more Hits from other people's searches.

Personally I have about a 90-95 KB/s upload. I give 4 slots because I like to see them upload at reasonable speeds. I do tend to get people queueing though, but I'm sure they could appreciate the wait for the spot with a reasonable upload speed.

Hi QS: As I mentioned in caps in private message, you HAVE to include COMPLETE details about your system, especially with stuff like a firewall problem. Otherwise, more experienced members than myself cannot provide suggestions about how to get rid of solid red brick wall in lower left-hand corner, which is likely your entire problem. This doesn't cancel my advice about Library share configuration. Even if I had your system details, must leave to senior members to figure out firewall problem once you have posted the DETAILS.
