I'm not able to download???

I get a message in yellow saying " only search results with a (lock) are official limewire communications. I type an artist name and I get this message. When I click the link it sends me to a tojan warning site. What can I do to fix this issue???
Thanks

The orange warning banner with the padlock was added because there's a bogus LW update showing up in search results. It's a 75.7 KB .exe & shows up as "Urgent LimeWire update - download & install now". If people download that thing they could end up infected. To try to prevent people from downloading a dangerous file, the warning banner was added to LW's interface.
The padlock symbol doesn't apply to music, movies etc...just to LW updates.

When you click to download, do files move into the download pane? If not, try the advice herehttp://www.gnutellaforums.com/../ima...ilies/wink.gif

Or, do files sit connecting for ages & then get stuck needing sources forever? If that's the case, you're probably seeing fake files.

If you're searching for music files, use the All Types search & search for artist or album rather than song title. Go for a file with 10 sources or less...stay away from the files with huge numbers of sources.
If you're searching for video files, always chech the file with Bitzi before download. If a file has heaps of sources but no Bitzi rating, chances are it's a fake.

Check out the threads below for more info & tips, including how to use Bitzi;)

New to the forum and can't speak computer talk at all!! I've got a problem with searches, every time I try to do one nothing appears in the search window even tho I have a strong connection and the search bar goes up to 100%, and I'm not looking for anything obscure so it's not as it can't be found

I've Sorted It!!!

:PEACE: I had a look around the forums and came across a link to download the most recent version(my son did this the other day but i'm begining to think it may have been a bogus one)

I still cannot download music, the orange lock will not dissapear

None of the links provided allowed me to open them. I am not able to download any music what so ever. i have my max download at 10. I searched my shared files and got rid of anything that was odd looking. I am still unable to download???

The orange banner won't disappear. It's there as a warning.

I don't know what happened with those links. Here they are again.

It's just never happened before, I have never seen this orange warning until now, If i type any music artist I get nothing, no search results, it's all empty, nothing will come up for me to download just an orange screen

birdy November 7th, 2007 07:22 PM

The screen is orange?? That's a new one:blink:

Ok, try changing your Java version. You can either update to the latest version here (I have this one & LW's working fine): Java SE Downloads
or try this older version, which has worked well for lots of people: Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11
Whichever Java version you use, download the JRE offline installer & remove any other Java versions before installing another one.

Next, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.
In case you're using Vista: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html
