Download speed question

Hello,

-I have a 7MB/s connection to my ISP.
-I'm currently downloading 4 different video files at the following rate:
from 14 hosts 48KB/s
from 14 hosts 40KB/s
from 13 hosts 35KB/s
from 14 hosts 30KB/s

Is my download rate considered slow or typical
or fast for users of Limewire?

Any input would be appreciated or postings of your speed.

thanks

I myself would consider that to be about normal. I would'nt DN/LD 4 Video Files at once though.

There are a lot of variables when it comes to Maximizing Speed. You might just play with the settings and see what works best for you.

You can do a speed test here.
Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Try downloading a file from this site & see how fast it downloads.

Thanks Remoc, I've been adjusting my settings
and checking the resulting DL speed differences
(if any). Speed tests confirm that I do have fast
connection ability. I DL from Rapidshare at about
350-400 KB/s which is considered a slow rate as
I'm not a paying user, and is to be expected, but
I'm wondering why I'm getting only 10% of that speed
when using Limewire.
If I have the bandwidth on my end, then something is
bottlenecking/throttling DLs. It may be my settings or
some other variable as I have yet to see a DL at anywhere
close to 400 KB/s.

It could be that what I've been getting is what to be
expected and is typical.

Again, thank you for your input as I'm seeking peoples
download speeds so I can find the ranges that are out there.

Something to keep in mind... For example, say you are downloading a 700mb video file. Your connected to 14 hosts and say 10 of those hosts are dialup and the other 4 are say T1. If you see where I'm going with this... Basically your only as fast as the hosts your connected to. You could have the Fastest Connection on the Planet, but it won't make any difference.
You can try pausing the download, and some times you will connect to different hosts that might be a little quicker, when you resume.

When the cards are in my favor, I have, and often do, download AVI Files at between 250 - 300kbs.

I only download the larger files 1 and sometimes 2 at a time. Just seems to Bogg down if more than 1 or 2.

Hope all of this makes since :D
