few files on search

I just upgraded to version 4.16.3. When using the older version 4.12, I think, I would get many files to choose from(video and film clip files) but since I upgraded I only get a few. What is the difference? Are all the versions sharing with each other? I liked the older version better. Also, what exactly is a torrent?
