downloading video files from torrents

Hi Everyone, I am new here and didnt realise there was so much help and guidance on this site until today..I am trying to downbload video files and its telling me that its connected to anything from 1 host to 700 hosts but no movemment in the downloading.......I believe these files are all or mostly from the torrent site, and have checked other answers from people whom i believe are experiencing the same probs as me. I have set my settings to the suggested advice given at the beggining...... and am pretty sure it is me as I havent come to terms with the whole understanding of links, etc and computer language as I am relatively new and would really appreciate someone guiding me here....
