router(whenever I do a search, only mpg or mov files show up)

I figured I would post the following question in this section as well as I’m really not shore what’s wrong:

I attached a router yesterday. But now, whenever I do a search, only mpg or mov files show up.
So, it would be good to know how to solve this.

Thank you

You doing a video search or all types search?

It’s OK that seems fine now.
I don’t know, for some reason now it’s not uploading when I open limewire.
Before I attached the router within a minute lime wire used to start uploading.

Are you seeing a brick wall icon at bottom of LW's interface? Chances are your router needs port forwarding.

When I first uses a router, my uploads dropped dramatically. It took a while to realise my router was semi-blocking uploaders. Only the odd one who forced their way thru was able to upload from me. Once I port forwarded, I had people uploading as soon as LW opened.

The brick wall is there.
How is it that I port forward?

I end up feeling guilty if I don’t upload!

To be honest I’ve noticed that having a router instead of a firewall doesn’t do that much to the speed of the computer.

What brand and model of router is it? That's the first thing you need to find out? Both details are needed. :)

its a Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL
model BEFSR41
seems to be made by cisco systems

Steps:

1. Step 1 is the most important step: Setting up a Static IP

2. PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall find Linksys on list, then your model. Click it, then LImewire on next page. Follow instructions.

BTW AFAIK Cisco is like a company that Linksys sells some of their products thru.

Hi
I downloaded the above program for setting up a static IP.
The this is when I start running through the program to set it up it asks for the limewire TCP ports and the
UDP ports.

So just wondering what these are.

Lord of the Rings March 23rd, 2008 12:56 AM

They are the communication channels. LW uses mostly TCP, however LW does also use UDP for some transfer of information. So it's best to keep both open for LW. Ideally a separate port forward for each, however a single port forward with both options chosen will generally work fine.
