Wow yes that is a lot. And it would slow the program down. Also keep in mind having too many incomplete files has a similar affect; Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link)

It seems the faster the computer & higher overall abilities, the better it seems to handle larger quantities of shared files. I noticed this after upgrading to a new computer earlier in the year.
