Default squeaks and pops on all music

using Limewire 4.18.6 basic(free) version, running DSL line to windows xp. my question - why do all downloaded songs contain click, pops, and squeaks in them and after 3-4 plays these seem to increase in every song. I have transfered may songs to an external drive and the squeaks get worse. is this something to do with my computer or is it because i am using the free version of limewire? thanks for you help!

it could be various things...

the songs could be corrupted, yet from what you describe I'm thinking its a computer issue as you say the effect is getting worse...

first try defragging your system....specifically the OS drive....

Just to add too what Peerless said, I have ALL of my Files on Ext. HDD's and I've never Had an issue.

Do Not purchase the Pro Version thinking it will help anything. Both Versions are basically the same with the exceptions of a few more connecting Peers. (Pro Version is not worth the Money)

One more thing...What Media Player are you using???

after reading your post again, I notice that you say after moving to the external things get worse....externals are not noted for their performance when streaming data (unless its a firewire)....my point being is that if your OS is already slowed down because of fragmentation then streaming data off of an external will only make that worse...

again, defragment your system
