Default There Is Hope!

I had the problem with the blank page document after downloading the Limewire Upgrade. I deinstalled the upgrade and went back to the version that worked. I downloaded iTunes. It WILL transform these documents back into something that can be burned onto CDs. Save the old documents. They are still useful!

To the author of this thread:

I am using a Mac, and I'm having exactly the same problems as you. If you happen to come up with a solution, be sure and post it on this board, okay?

Default Mac download problem

I've had a similar problem as mentioned before. I've downloaded some mp3s but they are saved as limewire documents. I've tried opening them up through QuickTime Player but it doesnt work. Any solutions?

The full answer is in the Mac support forum. Should still be right near the top, and easy to find by subject.

Short version: get yourself a copy of MP3 Rage, drop the file on it, and change the type tag to
SITD
and the creator tag to
SIT!
All caps, and you do need the exclamation point.

YOu can use any Mac type/creator changing tool you want, but MP3Rage kicks ***, because it's designed to make it really easy to fix the tags on your MP3's, and the more people who fix their tags, the better it will be for all of us.

Yes Yes Yes

bink is on the money, I have had this problem for months and his solution works like a charm - thank you bink.

Two notes to add...

Make sure that you are using stuffit 5 or greater.

MP3 Rage does appear to work on OS 8.6, which I am on, without problems - so give it a try.

Finally I can clean house!

Default limewire documents

How do you open/unstuff downloads which are now Limewire documents, on a Mac, but which are not MP3s? They are/were programs.

MP3 Rage. It's not just for MP3's. There is a detailed post about this in the Mac Support forum.

In short, you need to fix the file type and creator tags. Find a good file of the type you need, drop it on MP3Rage, note the type and creator. Drop your Limewire Document on MP3Rage, change the type and creator to match the good file, and you're in business.

Cool

Hello!

One thing that should be added to this tread is that most of the times it is unecessary to use a file creator/type/resource creator /editor tool to change the resource tags of files from LW documents to genuine .sit documents.

One common mistake when trying to decompress these files is that a person might drag a file directly out of LW's shared directory and drop it ontop of the Stuffit Expander alias on the desktop. The result will be that LW will launch and nothing else will happen. The solution to this problem is to drag the file out of the Shared Folder and drop it on the desktop then close the Share folder and then after the "inbetween landing" on the desktop you drop the file ontop of the Stuffit Expander alias icon on the desktop and it will decompress just fine. Another thing is to make sure you use the latest Stuffit Expander which is 7.X.

If the file you downloaded was compressed in such a way that your old version are unable to handle it it will also just result in the LW launch situation.

If none of the above works then it is time to use the other method meaning changing the resourcetag of a file.
