Is aol messing with my connection

I've recently gone to a broadband connection with AoL. My Limewire connection has become very variable, and download speeds have ground to a halt. I'm using Mac OSX 10.4.12. Entourage and Firefox work perfectly and quite fast.
Has anyone got some suggestions fro improving LW speed?
