The Gnutella Network is Open Source which enables anyone to Add Anything. With that said, Yes there are a high number of Corrupt, Fakes, Viruses, Worms, and Spammed Files. With NO Central Servers, there is basicly no way to Police what is put on the Network.

There are ways however, to protect yourself, by becoming very familiar with the Do's and Dont's when it comes to using LW or anyother GN client.

I could spend an hour rounding up Information and Links for you but I won't. It's all right here in these Very Informative Forums. So I would suggest, if you are concerned about these issues, Having a nice Long Read in the Forums to Learn as much as you can before going forward.

Yes there are ways of staying away from a large % of such files. Check MAJOR TOPICS for Upload/Download HELP in the upper middle section, and lower down in the fakes listed links. Here's 'one' of the links which is a quick tip for you to stay clear of: Typical file SIZEs of Spammed Virus files posing as audio files (click on link). You can right-click such results & ban their ip's. But keep in mind that some people may have also downloaded those same files by mistake, also those actual spammers tend to use dynamic constantly changing ip's & are set up on massive networks of computers. As a general rule of thumb, stay away from files less than 2,000 KB (2 MB) for music.
