Thanks for your reply

My setup

windows xp

windows firewall which I turn off but the firewall sign is still in front of the world sign. I did have norton firewall but Ive removed it because I thought this was the problem. I have also allowed limewire in my firewall windows settings.

my provider is aol

my rooter is wireless netgear 54 mbps adsl

I have 2 hard drives one reads 95% free the other is 45% free
I have a sony vaio computor pentium 3.19ghz 512 mb ram

conection is from my home

the test site worked fine

no anti virus

Version limewire pro 4.9.33 java 1.6.0._07

My limewire has worked fine for a few years without problem then all at once its stop downloading the speed is reading 0 although the turbo charged lights are displayed. I don't understand why the firewall wall is displayed when I have turned it off in my windows settings.? could this be the problem.

When I bought limewire I just downloaded it to my computor so I have not got a disc to reload it. I would purchase it again but I am afraid it would just end up with the same problem .

Any ideas ? is there a wizzard fix you can download for limewire?

HELP!! please

DO YOU NEED ANYMORE INFO ?

THANK YOU

AOL might be part of the problem, have a look at these links.
::. Kitz - ISP Caps, FUPs and Throttling .::
Why is AOL Broadband prioritising non peer-to-peer traffic at peak times? - AOL Help
AOL killed your P2P yet? - Broadband Internet - Digital Spy Forums

Try changing ports. In LW tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Change LW's listening port to 65000 > apply > ok. Or you can try any port numbers in the range of 49152 - 65535.

Your router might have it's own firewall. What's the model of your Netgear (eg DG834G, WGR614 etc)?
Check the router's manual to see whether it has UPnP support. If it does, enable UPnP within the router (the manual should tell you how) & then in LW go tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Check the button to use UPnP > apply > ok.

If that doesn't help, let me know the router model & I can give you a link to instructions for port forwarding

Don't run without a firewall - you can leave the Win firewall on, just double check that LW's being allowed access. The link below has more info about configuring firewalls.
User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Definitely don't buy Pro again if you're having problems There's not much difference between Pro & basic anyway.

One of the problems with AOL is you never know which ISP's services it's really running through. AOL rent lines via other ISP's, so those ISP's rules apply with p2p use. Those ISP's may be shaping p2p sharing bandwidth use.

I can connect to limewire, but I can't search. Nothing happens.

I am running aol xp. I've never had a problem with limewire before.
I even downloaded the newest free version 4.18.8. Still can't search.

This is obviously a sudden happening? Are you sure no numbers appear in the search tab? Try a simple General search for something very common, use a simple search word. You need to have two or three green connection bars at bottom left of screen to be able to search.

Yep, this is a new problem. As of last night. It shows a firewall. But windows xp shows it is allowing limewire access.
One time I open limewire and the firewall is there and blocking everything. Then it wasn't there and everything worked fine.....now....it's back and nothing is working once again. Not sure if maybe you're experiencing wide range problems or if windows and AOL are having hissy fits. Once again.

erm .. to me it sounds like you 'might' be downloading fakes or something.

One way that might check this. Download a magnet link from here: + MagnetMix.com +: The Source for Good Content
See what type of speeds you get. If they are fast then the problem is nothing to do with set up or ISP, but probably the files you are choosing to download.

You say you still see a brick wall in front of blue globe at bottom of LW, then that might be an issue. It sounds like a firewall (software), else Router issue. Netgear generally have reliable UPnP support, however, there is the odd model that does not use it well. In that case, port forwarding is best.

Whilst 'some' people might be able to download ok whilst seeing a brick wall, from personal experience, when uploading well, my downloads & searches improve dramatically. That's from my personal experience in past and present using different routers also.
