I think the Best advise myself or anyone else will give you is, Don't use Limewire to D/L Torrents. Most Torrent trackers Ban Limewire.

Better choices for Torrent clients would be uTorrent or Azureus, now called Vuse.

I guess the only thing you can do with the present D/L is to just continue trying to get it to finish. Sometimes if you pause the D/L and Restart might help. You can also try to search for more hosts.

I thought Vuze (Azureus) was about as safe as one could get.
What data is being sent? Will firewalling not interfere with uploads?

Keep in mind how torrents work. Those hosts may not have the complete file. You were probably downloading as they were. This is often a problem when the person(s) with the entire file are not online or else their upload slots/bandwidth is peaked & you cannot connect directly to them, only others with part of the file. So near the end of the download, speeds drop, hosts drop, etc. Same applies on gnutella network actually with partial file sharing.

But yes, some torrent programs have advanced settings that disallow hosts from downloading from them if their share ratio is lower than a certain %. Unfortunately LW does does tell you your share ratio.

Patience can be a virtue. As with many others, I use an alternate torrent program; Azureus.

He is blowing smoke out his @ss. Believe me, if Vuze was sending bad data, it would be banned long ago at the trackers I'm at.

It is one of a few recommended clients on every private tracker. It sends exactly the data it's supposed to the tracker, no more no less.

Have a talk with Kasperky labs then. The program continues to work fine with this component disabled/blocked. I didn't say it was sending bad data to trackers, I said it was sending hidden data (most likely phoning home to Mommy).

I see that Sleepless edited out my original comment, which was obviously about the hidden data being sent out. The attached image justifies my views. The old Azureus (not Vuze) did NOT get this message. What data is being sent I honestly don't know, but I for one try to keep any outgoing data strictly as needed, and apparently whatever data this is (again, probably phoning home) is not needed to interact with trackers as my program is working just fine.

Any pundits are free to do as you wish. Go ahead, let Vuze call home and tell them every file you've downloaded, legal or not. Be my ever loving guest. I have it blocked and will continue to do so.

As opposed to for all effective purposes deleting my post, why didn't you just add in your snide comment as opposed to trashing the original concept?

Do you call this a relevant post. "Be aware that Vuze sends hidden data out which must be blocked via a firewall". Propaganda is not wanted here.

I changed the comment, because it was quoted just below. Vuze has been checked over and over again for every version by the coders of various sites that I belong to.

I mean coders that don't rely on some signature database done by an Antivirus company.

Vuze sends lots of data "home", like version info, loaded plugins etc. Depending on the way you use it, it might also connect you to search databases, Vuze homepage torrent releases and all sorts of other things. It does however not send info home about what torrents you are downloading/seeding.

Many of these features can be disabled in the interface as well.

Take e.g. mine, which has DHT disabled, by not loading requred plugins, Auto update check disabled, media player disabled. Pretty much anything not needed for downloading and sending through private trackers is disabled.

To be honest I've been a bit sus about the information Azureus can potentially send too, especially when you need to sign up for certain aspects of its use via the program itself. Encrypted is it .. how well exactly.

So what you're saying Sleepless is that I don't know how to configure my client as you described (no updates, etc) before I let my mouth piledrive up my butt with my statement.

That's a mighty big assumption there. Since I have configured my client to work with only the basics, perhaps you would like to tell us all just exactly what the hidden data trying to be sent is?

Are you willing to swear on whatever holy book you ascribe to (if you aren't religious I guess your favorite pron mag will suffice) that :

Just exactly wherein lies your proof of your statement?

I suggest you do a little research as to just exactly what the modern Azureus (Vuze) is and how its being run with consideration to legal aspects before you make such pompus statements as "He is blowing smoke out his @ss". I won't bother holding my breath awaiting the proof of your statements as I'm sure I would turn blue and die.
