Default LW (or any songs) to mp3 player: worked before but not now???

I recently bought a cheapie Element 2g mp3 player. It worked great and downloaded songs easily. It worked this morning, but started giving an error message and stopped transferring. Now I can't transfer any song files. Each time I get the same message. "Cannot copy [song title] -- directory or file cannot be created."

I googled and found that hundreds of people have posted this problem, regardless of the brand of mp3 player. I still haven't found an answer, though. You have some posts from 2007 with the same question. Since it's been a year, I thought I should start a new thread.

The songs I'm trying to transfer are all mp3s, just like the ones that used to transfer easily. Some of them were downloaded from LW (to my computer) in the same session as some that worked.

I have used only 1/4 of the space on the player.

Until this morning, I was able to drag and drop files
a. from my LW library;
b. from the Shared file on my computers
c. from other locations on my computers.

Now none of them will transfer. Tried Windows Media Player's sync function (I hadn't before), but that didn't work, either.

I tried this on 2 different computers, one using Windows 98 and one using Windows XP.

I am using the most basic version of LW, but that shouldn't affect this problem. Happens whether or not I try to transfer from LW.

Element's manual is useless. It's translated from another language. It covers very little about operations, and barely makes sense even then. Ditto on the web site. Useless.

But as I said, it's not just a problem with this brand, according to the many posts I've seen on various forums.

Has anyone figured out what the problem is?

Btw, I can't right-click and send a file to the removable device drive. My computer doesn't have an option for that drive.

Also, I can't make file folders in this cheapo mp3 player. Someone had thought that downloading into different folders would work, and maybe it did for them, but I don't have the option.

Can anyone help?
