Download and Upload configuration

I was wondering if someone could please help; I thought I'd configured everything correctly, but something tells me I'm doing something wrong.

My download speed is 1863kb/s and upload speed 73kb/s.... I assumed I divided both by 8.... so approx 233 download speed and 9 upload speed, but what happens with the upload side.... the slider doesn't go that low.

I know I sound thick, but I just don't know what I'm doing that isn't right.
I'd just appreciate some help as to the correct positioning of my download and upload sliders.....

Yes it's one of those issues that doesn't quite work for everyone. Best option would be to set your Speed at modem setting, upload speed as you require, download speed as unlimited. ;)

I must say that's a 'mighty' difference between upload & download speeds. The country where I live is reknown as having the biggest difference between the two.

Thanks for your help! :) I've set everything up the way you suggested and *touch wood*, all is going well.

Seems I picked a bad day to test my speeds; I thought at the time my upload speed especially was on the slow side.... thankfully it seems to have gone up much higher now and has stayed there; which in turn has made configuration much easier.
Uploads are still not particularly fast, but at least they don't keep going backwards and stopping at 0/KB like they used to.
Though I think perhaps that could be something to do with how many upload slots I've allowed per person and the maximum slots - I'm still not entirely sure quite how many I should be setting it all to....
My downloads though are much quicker.

I have an upload speed between 90-100 KB/s. I allow 4 upload slots & 2 per person. 4 upload slots to give them a decent speed. 2 per person so one person does not steal all slots for themselves (I used to have it set to 3.) Reason I do this is because I share a large number & also a wide variety of files including different media types. Different people on the forums will give you slightly different advice. Problem with this technique is if someone selects 'too' many of my files to download at once LW will show them as being a 'Greedy Client' and ban them just for that session. lol :D I see that message now & again (someone who is trying to download 100's or a couple thousand files from me all at one time.) If I didn't share so many files & so many tastes of files then I'd allow more slots per person. So my technique is not perfect, but allows reasonable upload speeds, and 2-4 people to download from me at any time.

I'm currently allowing 3 uploads per person and 5 maximum; the uploads are constant, i.e. they don't keep starting and stopping - but they don't ever seem to go above a maximum of 6KB/s or so (most of the time they're around 3KB/s - 4KB/s). Maybe I should set them lower....?

I don't know what we'd all do without you, Lord of the Rings - you help so many people. You're a star! :)

Sorry to drag up this thread again; didn't want to start a new one. I just needed to check a few things....
Since my last post, I've upgraded my broadband connection....
My current speeds are now 9384kbps download speed (1173KBs) and 485kbps (60KBs) upload speed.
Could someone please advise me the correct positioning of my download and upload sliders. I currently have my download one on unlimited and the upload one around 40. However I don't think the upload one is correct.... initially they were noticeably quicker, but over the last few days, even if there's only one upload in progress, the speeds have really dropped off. Could it perhaps be too high? My downloads however are significantly faster; no problems there.
I've set my upload slots to 1 per person and 3 maximum; I figured less uploads, quicker speeds....
I've found though however, that doesn't necessarily seem to tally....
Whilst I appreciate that speeds can depend on others' bandwidths, how many uploads and downloads are going on at once, time of day etc etc, surely at the upload speed I have, I should expect to see obvious results....?
