whenever I download a movie/avi file from limewire it says
"sign up with xyz site and then play your file"...
I know its fake but i want to play that file desperately, anyone help...?

Try playing it with VLC player. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/tips-t...p3-fixers.html about half way down first post has a link to VLC player.

However, I would beware of 'any' file that asks you to go to such & such site or download a particular codec or plug-in from their site as some are in reality either viruses or spyware or worse! ;)

The problem here is not CODECs (though you probably needed to update them anyway). There are a number of bogus files, usually with popular titles, that attempt to get users to download a special player that will probably take over your computer.
