Default Problems Downloading

Hi guys, this is my first time on here, I am seeking help in my downloading issue. I am using Vista, but I just moved to a new home and because of the financial situation I am getting internet connection using a free wi fi signal from someone nearby. I downloaded the new LW 5, but I tried the first time to download songs and I kept getting "Unable to download. There is a disk problem." I am downloadig to an external hardrive and not to my internal hardrive on my laptop. I need help badly PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried downloading to your laptop initially first, then transferring the files across to the external drive?
External drives by their nature (unless it's a raid or something), tend to have sleepy moments & are not active 100% of time, thus causing issues when LW tries to write to it. Some people have had success with external drives using LW, but my efforts failed (whereas it worked ok with a different p2p network.)

Thank you. I had not thought of that. Had I did I would not have listened to the dumb witz at Western Digital who made me format the drive and I lost all the songs I had on the drive.....

oops! O.o Sorry to hear. Yes when reformatting always wise to back up personal files to an external storage device.

I am still having problems having the songs play using itunes player or any other player I have on my laptop. I took the external hardrive and placed it on my desktop and downloaded all the songs to it. It played fine using the music match jukebox player that I use on there (which is an old player). But it will not play when I connect it to my laptop. My desktop is Windows XP and my laptop id Vista. Is that the reason the songs would not play on my laptop? If not, how can I get the songs to play on my laptop?
