And then there are those who share everything - even bogus files. I feel it is my duty to check out a file before leaving it for others to download.
Vuse (Azureus) slows downloads down once the share ratio drops below a certain percentage, & gets slower & slower the worse the ratio gets. It does this until share ratio recovers again.

It would be good if gnutella / gnutella programs had a similar ability.

Yes I've seen so many people sharing junk. Some accidentally. Some sharing rubbish that obviously nobody wants.
Whilst some people might not share for special reasons, those who leech with a nasty approach as described in first post are despicable.

lol @ PickaxeFairy's last sentence.

And another thing....

Leeching is bad enough - but if you're gonna do it, at least have a decent speed!

I am so sick of all these people in my upload window who can't seem to get above 0KB/s!
All this results in is every 10 seconds or so, everyone's upload speeds - however good they were initially - do nothing but fluctuate at ridiculous rates for silly amounts of time....
Thus slowing everyone down to stupidly stupid speeds.

I love Limewire, use it loads - but honestly.... there are hosts on here sometimes who just make me want to commit murder!

Last night I was connected to someone with a T3 connection speed setting. My download was fluctuating between 1-3 KB/s, mostly at the zero to 1 KB/s. Plus, it kept going into busy host. I had a few downloads from this person, forced them to start occasionally via resume but same thing. This person was downloading from me at 20-50 KB/s. Yes I had browsed them, checked some of the files they were sharing. They were sharing less than 200 files (perhaps 180), so made me wonder if they were really that busy. Perhaps upload speed setting (they were using LW 4.18.8)

But these types of users will always be around. Of course many people think single-mindedly about using LW to get free music, etc. so only use it to please themselves & do not wish to please anybody else. lol Fact of life unfortunately.

I've suspected for a while, there is a problem between LW 4 users sharing to LW 5 users. I have a lot of upload problems to many LW 5 users. Post #208 Limewire 5 sucks half way down page.

Thanks for that Lord.

Not sure if the problem is just Limewire 5 though....?

Doesn't seem to matter what version people are using (in my case anyway)
I'm using Version 4.18.8.
My upload window slots are constantly fluctuating, mainly going backwards and sticking at 0KB/s.

The other day I was losing the will to live
A 6 minute file, nothing major - yet as soon as I started to download, it rapidly went backwards, stuck at 0KB/s for ages, then went to Awaiting Sources. This continued for the best part of 4 hours!
Funny thing was though, every time I right clicked on said file, it continued downloading quite happily.
Well for 10 seconds at a time anyway

What's with the Awaiting Sources message? How come I'm still able to download despite aforementioned 'message'?

Confused My personal problems with downloading/uploading

I have to confess, I've cancelled uploads of files.
But they were currently being downloaded!!
I've tried fixing this problem by simply "unsharing" files that I'm currently downloading - but you can't "unshare" files that aren't being "shared" in the first place!!
My library shows that the same file is unable to be shared since it is incomplete - so, please, explain how this same file is able to be found and then uploaded?!
It's frustrating enough when waiting to finish a big file (think video) and having to wait DAYS in order to get a decent download stream...and just when you've finally found the rest of the file, someone (or very often, several someones) start uploading the same file you're presently downloading!
I don't mind sharing, in fact I love sharing my favorites!
It's just that I don't understand how this is beneficial to anyone - how can someone be expected to "share" a file that isn't even completed?
I'm starting to wonder if this isn't just a problem I've been experiencing...would definitely explain why so many of my files seem to "stall" after partial download...maybe I'm just downloading incomplete files from others that are still searching for the completed files, also!?
Has anyone found a way to fix this problem? LOL
Kinda funny, trying to fix something that technically shouldn't exist!
I mean, why bother to "share" or "unshare" if the file can still be found and uploaded?

somewhere in the tools>options category should be the option of sharing partial files...uncheck the box...

Red face

Unfortunately, LW 5.1.2 doesn't have that option...at least not directly.
There is the option of checking a box that says you will "only share files selected at that point"...or you can opt to also share all new files downloaded to library.
It's an either/or type of choice.
After your post, I changed it to only share files at that point, but not sure if this will help since incomplete files don't show up as being shared anyways.
I'll post back after a few days to let everyone know if this changed the problem...or not.
Thanks!
