Question Downloading Taking you to artists website?

Hi

I dont use limewire much any more as hardly come on but wanted to download quite a new artists "main" single so searched on it and it found it. I came to preview it and it said something about aquiring licence which I have seen before and then took me to that artists website saying thanks for checking out xxx, please enter your email for an album mix mp3

Thinking it was a dodgy site I duely entered my email address and it took me to the link for it and it plays all ok and fine

I was worried incase this was a way of the record company getting IP addresses etc?

I viewed the source and found a number of references to "spoofing" with a yes value and googling this makes it appear like a fake site using the proper hosts name etc?

http://www.wmuk-apache.co.uk/xxxxx/s...ndingPage.HTML
the xx's are the name of the artist

to each their own....I would never do what you did....because of course it is possible your IP was harvested...I block my media player from going online for protection, and if any media file attempts to go online 1: I don't have to worry, because it can't 2: I promptly delete it...

- since doing some researching i have found two sites that are the "same"

- everything on this artists site ends in either .html or htm and this link is .co.uk/download

if you go via the one I got directed to then the link is http://www.wmuk-apache.co.uk/xxxxxx/spoofing/xxxxxx_LandingPage.HTML

if you go via another way I have found from their actual site I have found this site:

http://www.xxxxx.co.uk/xxxxx_LandingPage.HTML

also the top site is a genine site from a record label so I think something is spoofed from the back of it

yep....I noticed that...at the very least the spoofing aspect should raise your eyebrows...but that means nothing to me....

I will keep on advising (and following such recommendations) that people never accept such licenses/codecs (they can contain trojans and such), that they delete the material, and too boot simply protect themselves by blocking their media player from accessing the internet....

you are free to do what you want...as far as answers to your specific case, I have none, but I do have suspicions...
