Confused Big file downloading at 0 Kbps from 7 people

Hi gurus

I already read some postings trying to find this but not luck so far.

I`m trying to download a big file (26 Gb) for several days.

The rate is 0 kbps..some times "improves" to 3 or 4 kbps. I can see 7, some times up to 15 people connected/sharing, so no a problem with seeds.

I can download other files (3 Mb or so) with and 85 kbps pretty quickly and no problems.

I also found that the file size (actually is a full folder) in my disk says 26 Gb already but the LW monitor says 9% 2.5 Gb. Is that right?

How can I improve that specific file speed?

Platform:
Win XP Home
LMW 5.1.2
Java 1.6
Firewall : Windows
No Proxy
Internet Connection : DSL 5 MB

TIA

Cannot download folders via gnutella network. Thus, the file you must be downloading is a torrent file. Unfortunately LW's torrent abilities are limited. LW does not keep track of share ratio & some people using proper torrent programs might filter out those who do not have a share ratio above a certain amount for example. There might be 2,000 people with same torrent file, but depends on whether they have free upload slots & enough upload bandwidth left over to share to you.

As for folder size, generally with torrents the size is reserved on your hard disk drive as soon as you start to download the torrent. This also usually happens with video files on the gnutella network.

Thanks Lord of the Rings..you`re absolutely right. It is a torrent file and make sense. I`ll use a proper torrent program.

Thanks again.

Actually, I have a torrent file .. I mentioned to you about a series privately, is 68 GB in size. lol ******, will take me months to get it.

Just upgraded my internet plan an hour ago to next plan up (60% more bandwidth/month). Should do the trick.

well I know they exist...but man, I'd never have the patience for that acquisition...

honestly I didn't think of a whole series put together in one big file...I can envision a hell of a lot of time/effort put into getting it, and BAM....its lost....no thanks....

Actually 26GB isn't all that much nowadays. Think e.g. Bluray. I have seen packs in the 300 and even 400GB range. Just an untouched DVD will often be in the 8GB range, so trilogy will already be close to that.

But like mentioned above. Never ever rely on limewire for torrents. There are dosens of better REAL bittorrent clients. The two most popular being uTorrent and Vuze (Azureus)
