When I search...am I finding myself? Hello. I recently removed some spyware, and now I'm finally getting lots of search results - but only from one source. And the source has everything I've already downloaded. And the source can't be "browsed". Is it possible my search is looping back and finding me? Every time I search, I find the same source and same results, and nothing new to download. Thanks for your help. *** Okay, now it's the next day, and I've figured out that I AM finding my own IP address when I search. Is there a way to stop this from happening? You are finding your own files on the network. Is your Limewire fully connected to the network? (Bottom left bars) Are you sharing files in your Sharing settings that you don't want to be sharing? My first step would be to check the connectivity bars on the bottom left, and if they look solid, I'd disable sharing for all the files you're sharing, quit and restart your computer, and try again. Let us know! |

Thanks "Lord of the Rings" I have LW 4.18.8, and it does show a brick wall (firewall). But I have my firewall set to allow LW access. Maybe it's not working the way I expected. Is there something different I should try? I did a browse, and it did show my IP address, so I was "finding myself". I still do find my own files, but less often because I'm sharing fewer files now. Thanks for your help! |

Ty for the reply. Let's start from the basics: System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) I cannot advise without such information. |

Here's the info 1. Windows XP 2. Windows security center firewall...? 3. 2.20 GHz, 448 MB of RAM 4. total physical memory: 457192 5. broadband 6. Modem: Motorola SM56 Speakerphone Modem I don't know what a router is, or where to find this info. 7. I'm connecting from home. 8. Limewire 4.18.8. I recently updated Java to the most recent version. 9. ISP: Verizon 10. My test worked. 11. I'm not sharing my computer with others. 12. I've had LW for years...I used to get great results, now I get very few. 13. I do see a brick wall, but according to the Security Center, I have allowed LW as an "exception" in my firewall settings. 14. Unknown. 15. Malwarebytes, Spybot, CCleaner. Sometimes Avast or Adaware, but they take over my computer, so I delete them after use. 16. Sometimes LW completely stops connecting and I have to re-install LW and Java before it will work again. This hasn't happened in about a month, but I did recently update Java. I recently tried Avast and Peer Guardian, but deleted both. Thanks again! |

Just as an experiment have you tried totally disabling your XP firewall before you open LW to see if you still have the brick wall icon showing? There's always this option also but not sure if it will make a difference to connections: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/downlo...downloads.html |

P.S.: I tried both suggestions, and they didn't work. The brick wall icon didn't go away when I connected to LW with the firewall disconnected, and switching to 4.16 also didn't help. Plus, when I switched to 4.16 I couldn't get the 5 connections I get with LW pro. I search for the same words each day, because I'm learning a language and searching for audio books in that language. I only get a few results, and I'm always finding my own files. |
