Search results are acting very weird

I've had Limewire (basic) for a month or two, and it was working fine. But recently, there have been some problems with it.
  1. I start the program, it takes a while to get to full connection, and then, all of a sudden it stops. My limewire screen is gone? When I start it again, it works fine.
  2. So, today, my limewire starts just fine, I get full connection. My search begins to act very weird. If I was to type in deep p**ple, I would get 4 results: deep p**ple, deep p**ple (from new album), deep p**ple (hot new track) and deep p**ple (unreleased live record). All audio files. All from the same 6 usernames. When I shut down limewire and start it again, I get the same result, but with different usernames. These usernames however, are all very similar. An example: NeonCodfish54-95 (almost always an animal - the number is not the same, I'm not sure if that's allowed) It doesn't matter what I type in the search bar, I always get the same type of results. Do other people have this, because this doesn't seem normal to me. By the way: I don't get ANY other results.
Problem number 1 could be my laptop's fault, because it's pretty old. But I have no idea about problem number 2. Is this a problem in limewire? Do I have a virus? Is limewire suddenly extremely spammed.

Help me please!!

Okay, I fixed it. I just went to Advanced Tools - Connections and I removed all my hosts. It's working fine now. Sorry for bothering you.

Yes, sounds like you might have been connected directly to Spammer ultrapeers. Those are typical spam results you received. That's the worst scenario with spammers when connected directly to them. Usually there's only spammers within your search horizon. Probable reason for those usernames being similar is very similar ip addresses. ;)

Don't be sorry for posting here. We are here for this purpose of helping. :)

BTW I share a very large no. of such artist (including video). lol :D Many uncommon version songs also (unofficial live recordings.)

Sorry to reopen the subject, but I have the exact same problem...
Except I can't see how to apply the same solution!

When I go into advance tools, I only see "Statistics" or "Mojito DHT Arcs view"... and in the preferences panel, under "connections", I can only select if the program connects to the network right after opening or not...

Under hosts I can block or allow specific hosts and that's it... and right now these are blank...

I can't see anywhere where I'd be directly connected to ultrapeers...

I hadn't used Limewire for a while, and when I opened it about 30min. ago it seemed to work fine, I got normal search results.

And then all searches I did gave me similar results, like MissMacadamia : ost in WMA, one in "au" but also some in mp3... always one with [new single] another with "greatest hits 2009", at least one with just the search query and one with [club mix]. If you search under "title", you get [new single], if you search under artist or album, it's [new album]!!!

I knew there was something weird going on when I opened a new window of search results (something I had never looked for) and it said I had already downloaded 3 songs... Including one that was [hot new single]!

And as MissMacadamia said, apart than those weird looking titles, almost no other results.

But what can I do to stop it?! :bangh:

I don't seem to have the same layout as she does, can't seem to have that option (or at least, not titled the same...).

I'm now using Pro 4.14.10 under Mac OS X 10.5.7

Thanks!

Found it!

I had to go in "view" to activate the connection window you were talking about... and there I could see the hosts you had talked about and try a solution I saw elsewhere in the forum, which was disconnect one at a time to get an idea of who is the culprit (maybe they all were, probably I won't remember, but hey, I followed the suggestion).

It worked like a charm!

Scared at first, since it said I had turbo connection, but was getting no results at all... then it was OK.
Phew.

Hi Anniedan :) Yes it can depend on version of LW you are using. LW 5 has the option of viewing connections in a totally different location. Plus, even for LW 4, mac version has some differences of location of finding things compared to the windows version.

yes, some members here suggest dropping all connections at once. I'd prefer to suggest the safer option of one at a time. At least then there's less chance of loss of connection for long, for some people even dropping one connection 'might' mean problems getting a good connection back for a minute or several. Depends on user & such. ;)

BTW LW 4.14 was a very good version. I presently use LW 4.16 on my mac intel. Used 4.14 for a long time on my Mac G4 until after 4.18 came out & was very happy with it. My 4.16.6 version has some bugs, some of which 4.16.7 fixed, but I'm still much happier using 4.16 over 4.18 or later. :secret: :giggle:

LW 5 initially came out with a very minimum of tools, only now slowly re-adding them & adding the odd new one .. which is making it start to look even better than LW 4. But still not quite there yet for the advanced user. Still some things to improve upon that are missing from LW 4 or where LW 4 has more identifying information for.
