97% of file downloaded. then... the file is totally deleted Well, i don't know if this is the real place to post something like this. Well, the title says it all: 97% of file downloaded. then... the file is totally deleted. Well, the error message, i can't remember it 100%, but here it is: [file] is mabye made to damage your computer. limewire has deleted it to protect your computer. Well, i was downloading a file. it was a video with a card trick. It gets to 97% and this happens. I went crying and angry to my bed But the question is pretty simple: Can i get rid of that? Can i restore the file? Degrading limewire? I use limewire PRO 5.2.13 And before you ask, i tried to search the file again, but the file name looks blocked or so... I hope there is a "Fix" for this... MrVV PS: Sorry for my english! |

I'd have suggested 4.16.7 rather than 4.18 because LW 4.16 will continue your incomplete files from LW 5 much more easily than 4.18. However there is a trick to it; Downgrading to LimeWire 4 from 5 & resuming incomplete downloads. But that's up to you. eg: LW 4.18 will not even see your LW 5 incomplete files in your search results (they will not be marked as already downloading, & will not auto-start.) |

Forget to say, the file is of course totally deleted, so it won't work that way... Edit: is it possible that limewire blocks the file name? Last edited by MrVV; August 10th, 2009 at 07:57 AM. Reason: Forget to say something... |

Hi MrVV, Just wanted to give you a bit more information about the dangerous file check and how it works. People have been trying to spread malware through Gnutella by embedding popups in Windows Media files. The popup says you need to download an additional codec to view the file, but the program it downloads is actually malware. Virus checkers won't detect the Windows Media file as being infected, because it's the program downloaded by the popup that's actually infected. That's the reason LimeWire hides search results for .asf, .asx, .wm, .wma and .wmv files by default. The people spreading malware tried to get around LimeWire's protection by renaming their files with "safe" extensions like .mp3 and .mov. They realised that when Windows Media Player opens a file that's really a Windows Media file, even if it has a different extension, it will treat it like a normal Windows Media file - including opening any popups embedded in the file. So once again the popup downloads malware and infects your computer. To protect people from Windows Media files with fake extensions, LimeWire now performs the same check as Windows Media Player, and if the file is really a Windows Media file, but the extension claims otherwise, LimeWire cancels the download. Hope this helps to explain what happened to your download - and why it's not necessarily a bad thing. ;-) Cheers, Michael |

I'm going to guess this was a pron file...those files are notorious for having redirects embedded in the video stream...and as has been noted such redirects lead you to at best some dodgy codecs, and the url itself may be infected with virii/malware...
