LW torrents

I am using v4.18 and have been for years. I'm having a problem now and need some help. I am unable to download torrent files from any of the popular sites. Limewire seems to be working fine in all other regards. I can download fine from within Limewire. It's just the torrents DLs. When I try it goes to through the routine; searching for sources\waiting for sources\need more sources. No matter how long I wait and it makes no difference which files because it is the same for files that I have already downloaded a couple days ago. Any ideas?

Can depend how old the torrents are. Sometimes there's no hosts for the files if they are quite old. I cannot think of any other options at present. Other than perhaps, deleting your LW preferences & seeing if that helps: instructions here: Point #3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

yep

i have the exact same problem. everything was working great untill i rolled back with system restore in xp sp2, at which point lw quit working entirely (wouldnt load). after reinstalling java and lw 4.18 2 days ago, everything works fine except for any and all torrents. i even tried a vey recent k**** w*** torrent with 120 seeders...."need more sources"
but at least i can say this is the first problem ive had with lw since i statrted using it years ago.

LW is not a fantastic program for torrents. A specific torrent program such as uTorrent or Vuse are ideal for handling torrents. :)

Some torrent sites will not dl via LW, as it does not comply with all of the usual requirements, such as tracking share ratio. Better to follow LotR's advice and use a true torrent client.

I had to uninstall LW and it's Library. I then cleaned the registry of it and reinstalled. It works perfectly again and in all the years I have been using LW for torrents I have had only 3 occasions of it being unable to download what appeared to be a healthy torrent file. I did run into one problem though. I was unable to find a LW download for version 4.8 which I prefer over the new one. I have it now tough so if you need it let me know.

Glad everything is working well again. I suggest you still try out Vuse or uTorrent. Some of us here think those programs are the best of the free torrent clients.

One advantage you will note is the ability to download many more torrents at the same time. The procedure to dl in either program is very similiar to the method used by LimeWire. Many of us switch between LW and a torrent client. I use Vuse for movie torrents, while I prefer LW for music downloads. Yeah, I can dl movie torrents via LW, but I much prefer to quickly grab a bunch at one time.

I didn't know that. The part about being able to DL more than 2 torrents at a time. I thougt it was a server limitation. Well thank you, I will now try out Vuse as you suggested.

I use Vuse myself. It can be set to be used in basic, medium or advanced modes. I've never used uTorrent but heard it's very easy to use.
