Unhappy Limewire Turbo Connection but no KBs

Hi,

I'm having a problem connecting to limewire. It says I have a turbo connection and I'm downloading from 5 hosts but there is no KBs in the speed column, I have a satellite connection. I also have dial-up and when I connect through dial-up it works but it only gets 1-3kbps my satellite has worked before but since it has been "fixed" by "harbourit handyman" we've had problems ever since. Optus speed test shows line speed 478kbps, download speed 60kbps. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Could be that your ISP is "bandwidth shaping" (aka restricting) your P2P Internet connection.

You are with Optus? If yes, AFAIK they do not normally shape bandwidth for p2p sharing. However they may shape your bandwidth if you go over your monthly quota of bandwidth. But then, satellite is a totally different story.

The last figure you show should be KB/s not kbps !
kbps = kilo bits per second. LimeWire shows Kilo Bytes per second. 1 Byte = 8 bits. So 478 kbps divided by 8 is approximately 60 KB/s.

Are these gnutella network files or torrent files?

Confused Turbo Connection no kbs

Hi,

Thankyou all for your help. I am connected with "Harbour IT" Satellite supposed to be speed 512/128 My harbourit handyman was the man from "harbour it"that came and "fixed" my dish after a windy day. I previously have got up to 60kb in the speed column but now after returning settings for limewire yesterday to defaults, I can now connect through harbourit but it is only 1-6kb in speed column. My provider does slow things down after we reach our limit, but we are no where near limit this time, so it has to be something else. Bandwidth shaping? Can that be fixed by me if that were the problem, and if I have connected through harbourit before but not now, does that mean he has messed with my settings when he "fixed" it? Thankyou all
