Default Download not being seeded

With so many threads I hope I'm not duplicating another question.

Limewire vn.5.1.4.

I completed two downloads, during which time the files were being seeded (click on tools - uploads). I then closed Limewire and rebooted the PC as it was starting to slow down. On restarting Limewire there was nothing that was being uploaded.

Question: have I created partly seeded files that will cause someone's download to get stuck part way through, and what should I be doing?

First post; if more info needed please ask.

Default Shared Files

Hi M

I guess that when you said:
Quote:

you mean that the files were being uploaded from you by someone else.

If I am right then on with your question, you asked:
Quote:
Have I created partly seeded files that will cause someone's download to get stuck part way through
No because that person's P2P app will be downloading from other users with that file. You see, P2P apps usually download a file from multiple P2P users and so should be able to continue downloading without your contribution.

Therefore,
Quote:
what should I be doing?
Nothing, just continue to use your P2P app.

Here's a simple explanation of How LimeWire Works.

Thanks. A useful explanation.

Still a new poster.

I am downloading as I write, and on the uploads screen I have

Seeding to 6 people at 47 Kb/s - Ratio (0.01)

The message is there if I am downloading, and disappears if I am not. What I was wondering was whether some process is happening only if the message is there. If there is nothing special going on why should the message appear?

Default Application Messages

Hi MAP9475

I guess those computer messages can be somewhat worrying to a new user, but as I am someone that has used PCs years, I have learned to ignore those that do not interfere with what I am doing and try to decipher those that appear when my computer stops working.

You see, the people who write computer programs do not necessarily use the programs themselves, so when they think they are being helpful, with these messages, they instead just confuse the "heck" out of the rest of us.

And, fortunately or unfortunately, I have also worked with programmers in the past and I can say, without any shadow of a doubt, is that most of them do not think like most (ordinary) people.

So, my advice is, if a computer message does not prevent you from working (and as long as it is not a warning from one of your [protective] applications) then take it with "a pinch of salt" and not worry about it.

PS. Limewire is working properly with or without this (useless) message.

Thanks again. Can I ask a couple more?

Firstly, what part does the torrent file play apart from letting me download? Is it needed on my machine so that data can be uploaded to another user?

Secondly, sometimes on the upload screen I get the message "Unable to upload: transfer interrupted", with the option to click on Remove whereupon the filename disappears. I may find that this has happened several times with the same file. Same question as before - is there something I should be doing?

TIA

I will make your life a lot easier. Limewire is NOT a proper bittorrent client. Torrent - a (very) tiny BitTorrent client and Vuze: The most powerful bittorrent client in the world. are.
