Files Not What They Are Supposed To Be Hey so im just wondering why there are so many files available for download that are not what they say they are? Ive had the same problem with downloading music only to find the songs i just downloaded arnt what the title says they are. Im only asking because my internet usage restarted yesterday and im only on a 6gig pm plan, so for the 1st time ever i tried to download a movie....movie name removed - read the rules. The first time i downloaded it was through some torrent thing which ive never used before....took hours to download only for me to discover QT and WMP etc will not play it so i downloaded something else to play it with and even tho the file said it was full version, all i can get it to do is play for 15 seconds and its so scratchy you cant see anything. So i thought well ill try through limewire.... Left my computer running all night just so i could watch it today and guess what!!?? Its not the right movie!!! It says movie name removed - read the rules and it plays for a long time but its not movie name removed - read the rules, its some ***** movie thats not even in english!! So now im angry because day 2 of my plan and ive used almost half of my gig usage for nothing... Any one know how to guarantee the file you download is correct? Ill have to wait another whole month to try again but id like to know if i do try again it will be the right one __________________________________________________ Edited to comply with the House Rules. LW isn't a very good torrent client. For torrents I'd suggest either uTorrent or Vuze (formerly Azureus). They're proper torrent clients & both are free. But regardless of which client you use, check comments about the torrent before you download it. Torrent sites have the option to view comments about the file - so that you can see what other users think of the file & if there are any problems (such as being incomplete, misnamed/porn, infected etc) ;) And if you're downloading files from the Gnutella network (rather than torrents), always check the file with Bitzi before download. Click here for more info: How to use Bitzi If the file has heaps of sources but no Bitzi rating then I'd stay away from it. You can also preview the file (say after ~10% download) to make sure that it's what you want. If the file looks bad or has been misnamed then kill the download & you haven't wasted too much time or download allowance. :) |
Thanks Thanks for your reply birdy. The files ihad downloaded didnt have comments :( but what ever it was gave me heaps of viruses :S I spent the entire day yesterday and all night lastnight trying to fix my laptop cuz as soon as id touch the keyboard pop up after pop up of viruses kept coming up and nomatter how many times i clicked qurantine or deny access more would pop up. Id say i clicked quarintine atleast 100 times yesterday LOL thankfully i got hold of spybot SD and so far so good. It removed all problems and then i did another spybot scan just to be sure and also scanned with Advance system care and all says its ok. Im very new to torrents and stuff because im on wireless internet i usually just stick to songs but mum been hasseling me 4 the movie all night so i tried to get it 4 her. Guess that will teach me 4 being nice :p Ive also used emule before without probs for songs and games so mabey ill just stick 2 songs and games from now on because im not the best at computers and anything i accomplish with fixing it is only luck and i dont wanna risk going through what i did yesterday ever again. Once again thanks soooo much for your reply :) |
Hi Krystle319 and Welcome to the Gnutella Forums. :) Glad you were able to work through the issues of the infected file off of the Gnutella Network. I would just like to help further your security by using this Application, just as an added measure. SpyBot used to be a great security app. but is now a little dated. This is a Free scanner as well. Just keep this around as it is one of the best Maleware fighting programs available at the moment. Malwarebytes.org Just to add to what Birdy said, Torrents are the ONLY way to go for Movies, Apps., Games, Full Albums, and many more file types. Don't be afraid to try different programs or apps. because there is always help for you any time you need it. :) Good Luck :PEACE: |
hi remock. Thanks for your reply :) because ive never used torrents before ive always used things like LW etc and never had a real prob untill yesterday. i still have no idea what torrents really are lol but ive been googling trying to learn stuff. Im downloading the maleware thing you suggested atm and yeh, i have noticed spybot is outdated. i think i read the last update was in 2008 or something? i just finished installing utorrent so i will definatly try that for everything now. do you think i should delete limewire and emule? ive never had any probs with emule but id prefer to be safe than sorry so if utorrent is better than emule and limewire ill defo delete them. Thanks heaps again :) |
