security and routers When using a linksys router and setting port forwarding to the ip address that corresponds with your computer, does that allow an external user to access the rest of the files on the PC?? I have lots of cool files to share but am afraid to bypass the security provided by my router. |
It should work, you need to know your 'external IP' and force it in the LimeWire settings under 'FireWall'. However if the user downloading from you has FireWall, connection will fail. |

Hi dirtyboy103us, Try this site here - http://whatismyip.com/ - it should tell you what your IP is, please post back your results. |

Well, the piont of it is that you can see what IP you have each time you connect to the internet. |
Well, your IP address will change every time you connect to the Internet. But the point of this is that you can see what IP you have at the time you connected, so you can type it in the LimeWire FireWall settings. |
