Confused Help (user profile lost, LW downloads lost)

This evening my computer decided to "glitch" on me and I lost my husband's user profile. He has spent the last two weeks downloading music for his 2 kids who live across the country from us and due to the glich, ALL the music he downloaded is now gone from our computer. As he d/l's he removes the titles from his limewire library. Is there anyway to view a history of his downloads so that he can re-create the list of music so he can d/l it all again? We don't have limewire pro....just the free platform.

Unless "glitch" means hard drive failure, most likely the music is still there. Have you tried searching for specific titles, which he downloaded before, on an administrator account?

Did you delete his whole profile? because that's the only possible scenario for them all being gone.

the computer all the sudden couldn't find his profile settings, and after doing a restore to yesterday, they are still not there. if i/puter had deleted him wouldn't that stuff be in the recycle bin?

AFAIK Limewire does not keep a history.

Try restoring from a week ago, not just one day, and see what happens.

I still think the files should be on the HDD. How are you performing the search?

I guess it all depends on how and where you saved your files.

Thank you! I did go back to 3/21 but alas no music files. Not sure how husband saved them but they are gone. I did get most of his profile back but a lot of it was gone and I even had a tech friend get on my computer thru remote assistance and he couldn't even find them. Gotta take puter to Geek squad because it's having more issues...won't let me burn a recovery cd. won't let me burn a back up cd either. burner that came in puter is very tempermental etc etc etc. guess that's what i get for buying a compaq LOL

I LET MY MIND WANDER AND IT NEVER CAME BACK

The recommended save location is as follows.

Default location is C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/My Documents

I don't use Limewire and haven't for several years, but if I remember right, If you save LW files in the "Program Files" location, they will get deleted when you shut down your computer.

Sounds like you may have other issues as well, so I wish you the best of luck, and let us know how everything comes out.

Just to add, It is VERY easy to get Infected using the Gnutella Network and Limewire. If you'll do a Forum Search, under security or the like, you'll find a ton of helpfull info, and also some FREE Malware and Spyware Scanners, that may help clean some stuff up.

Also, you should ALWAYS Scan EVERY File that you download, with your AV program before opening.

Good Luck
