Default bearshare starts - internet lags

Hi,

I'm using BearShare 5.1.Ob.25 with Bearstart for a long time now, and everything in BearShare works fine!

I just have one problem: As soon as I open BearShare, my Internet gets really anoying slow. Every page takes very long to load. After 15 minutes or so it gets better, and I can surf normal. But when I do a search, the Internet will slow down again, until the search is finished.

How do I get rid of BearShare slowing my surfing-speed down?

1. Never stop it. Mine runs 24 hours a day and has done so since 1999.
When you keep it running it's searching and downloading performance
gradually improve.

2. Since we have no details on your computer and internet connection
any advice could do more harm than good.

1. Is unfortunately not an option

2. My computer runs really fine, no problems whatsoever.
My internet connection: Download, Upload: 16384 kbit/s, 1024 kbit/s

Maybe something is wrong with my settings in bearshare?
- forced ultrapeer
- hosts 0
- uploads limit 250 (lowering or disabling wont help)
- dl limit 16380
- get up to 30 files at time
- 8 connections per file
- 20 connections total
- enable sparse files

I don't even have to download anything, just as I open up my browsing gets really slow.

Any idea?

try disabling the forced ultrapeer...that can really hog resources...I rather frown on the concept of leaving it on forever, as BS has a memory use problem which eventually catches up and bogs everything down..

Yes, ultrapeer mode is pretty heavy on the memory. I find that leaving the
Connect checkbox off and Accept on overnight or whenever I'm not there almost
completely eliminates the RAM drain and makes it easier to shift to full power as
needed. Left in that mode it tends to have half the usual number of connections
and there's no trying to open a lot of connections at once, which is probably what
was bogging down your connection too. Those controls are at the bottom of the
Hosts view.
