No download / heartbeat shows "1"
 

Hi.
I'm using Bearshare 5.1.0b25 with Vista and I have broadband internet.
I'm manually adjusting the system date.
In the beginning it used to shut down, but it was working fine, till a couple days ago.

I noticed less and less download connections and search resuts. Now I hardly have any downloads at all I always have two Ultrapeers connected and the "Horizon In/Out" number mostly says something between 20000 and 110000 or so.

But the number on the bottom right corner, right to the globe icon suddenly just says "1"??? It used to say like "130000" or more. I think it's called the heartbeat.

Does anybody have an idea?

You choose not to use the BearStart Utility to change the computer clock back for a few seconds as BearShare is opening? Or does it not function properly on Vista?

Hi..i am trying to search music but the programs fails to finish connecting..I have amessage that the program hant finished connecting but it never finishes so i am stuck and cannt do anythign..I DO NOT have a firewall and has no history of firewalls... I went into the prompts incase it was a firewall but it isnt. everything is well set up....can someone help me with this? thank you

BearShare has to be shut down when you do it.

Christoph: The heartbeat server probably crashed. It doesn't matter.
Since you have b25, go to Setup/Service and do this:

Leave it in ultrapeer mode for a while and your performance will improve.
Once you start some downloads, if the speeds seem to be sluggish, reverse those settings.

Save the file, then double-click it.
Use whatever program opens it to extract the files inside to the /db/ folder.
It will ask if you want to replace the existing files, so answer Yes.

Start BearShare and it should connect pretty quickly.

Hi Aaron..the program I use to download freemusic is Limewire...is bearshare the same? i can use that one then..I didnt dar download a program I dont know its origin// I suscribed to this gnutella forum becasue apaprently Limwire uses Gnutella network..just repeating what I read because I dont understand what Gnutella is..etc thanks again:idea:

Both use gnutella, but the corresponding file for LimeWire is different and goes in a

Are you using a Proxy ip address? LW did not auto-filter out ip addresses in LW 4, but does in LW 5. Did you ever install LW 5? LW 5 has a blacklist of ip addresses that are used with default settings.

Another possibility is you have yourself banned a host whilst using LW 4, who coincidentally used the same proxy ip address or dynamic address as you at some point. Answer might be to delete your LW preferences folder.

Hi Lord of the Rings...thank you! i havent a clue if i use proxy ,,at the moment i have wireless conection with mobile device provied by the cell phone company..but before i was using fiber optic cable and didnt work either...i think is a LAN connection..never understood the difference..i am not knowledegable how things work...
i will delete preferences folder then..but i am always afraid of doing things that i cannot fix later....under preferencing i have only one option tick if i allow freeloaders or not... and files you must sharing for not to be a freeloader..which says 1..:confused:.. and under the advanced tab it is ticked no proxy..
any other ideas?...thank you..AH and mine is limewire pro 4.9.23

Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.) For you Point #2 might apply.

hmm ... I presume you were able to connect with LW previously? Your newer internet connection type might be the issue.

such as replacing your gnutella.net file.

Hu Lord of the rings..thanks so much for all the information..i will wait until tomorrow to print it..it is too overhelming.

I have java 1.6 AND 1.5... i highlighted the 1.5 dont know when it got updated but i am using the same laptop i was using in NZ and limewoere was working well...so maybe is the internet connections here in Argentina???

what if using an older version java doesnt suit the computer for other purposes

habe no ide what java is for..and i am afraid of touching all these settings
and the menus not always are the same as the samples..

it is to much for me to handle....will read it and tomorrow will bring it home
and see if i can do something about it.
and under connections there are heaps of ip addresses and wouldnt dare touch thoese things..
Is there a simpler way to change something the way this internet connections works? all the problems sarted here in Argentina

You should only be using one version of Java with LW. And yes, on some people's systems, one version of Java works better with LW than others. ;)

Maybe your ISP is blocking LW or the connection port it's using.

The ip's you see in connections window is ultrapeers your LW is attempting to connect to. It should be connected to 5 for Pro.

Hi Lord..sorry but those menues are not in my limewire there is no box to put a 5 anywhere.

I found a place with heaps...of IPS addresses
I have same difficultu tha sorted out with the program control of the norton
but thenort you display is an older version than mine..that looks more automatic..and there arel ot os tabs opening with another tab to ADD and hvaent a clue to add what? this should be to take out or untick the limewire but i dont have that simpler version of norton whre it was easier to do it manually...
if i disable smart firewall a menu comes up all the time saying that Norton blocked and attempt of invasion or intruder...

I opened the mobile moden and there was nothing related to firewalls...
so if the interne tprovider doesnt even show an option for firewalls I dont know where is that
the LIMEWIRE shows a brickwall undeneatht that i cant find a way to remove it....

5? No I mean the connections window shows ultrapeers your LW is 'attempting' to connect to. That's all. View menu Show/Hide Connections. See the other thread you posted to.

when I open the connections everything is 0 ultrapeers 0 everything..it doesnt show anything..the tab is empty..only shows the titles of each column
The problem started here in Argentina and when the internet provider came home he set up the service in my computer ,,, HOW do i delete the ISP he must have put in my computer..I now use this mobile usb device and didnt have to configure anything....
under hosts on the Limewire there is largelist of ip numbers. thank you
