![]() I put my hand up for this one too. It is handy being able to see audio id3 tag information for (a) downloads (b) search results (c) library files What id3 tag information can do: Show audio file duration (time length of song) Bitrate Artist Album (if any) Description Genre With this information it helps to (1) know you are getting what you are seeking. (b) analyze the details to check the data is correct & is not a spammed corrupt file or a mistitled file, etc. With ability to see id3 tag information, the above information can be compared between one's library files & search results to be sure you are not downloading the same file. I find this is an issue for same title song, different version from different concert for example. It's almost impossible to know unless the file name incorporates that information, else id3 tag information can be seen. Bitrate is more important than many people realise. ![]() As it is, there is no show bit-rate options for the columns. |

![]() I just went digging a bit for java id3 libraries. The ones which sound best to me and are still active are jaudiotagger and entagged: - https://jaudiotagger.dev.java.net/ - Entagged | Developer The License is LGPL in both cases, so they can be used directly. I didn't list myID3, as its license (Apache) might conflict mith the GPlv2 - to be able to use it, Phex might have to switch to using the GPLv3 which add compatibility to the Apache license.

![]() Entagged also gives option for lossless formats such as FLAC & APE (I didn't realise FLAC had some vulnerabilities.) It seems Entagged has some compabitility with WAV, I hope that also includes AIFF. I did not read the full details of jaudiotagger since I need to register at Java. I presume with both the first two types that m4a/aac support means it also recognises Apple's Lossless format which has the same file extension. AAC support 'might' also give some information with video files. A "might" I suggest in "hope". lol ![]() I would greatly look forward to this being incorporated into Phex in the future. Which one chosen is the question I guess. Edit: Looked at some of jaudiotagger details. Glad to see the mp3 id3 tag abilities appear to be full & up to date. Also has WAV, ogg vorbis abilities. ![]() I just heard from Gregor, that he's currently stomped with real-life work, so I think it will take some time till he gets to try it. But while we're at that: Here's something new for Phex, written by Tamara for her studies: Pootle for Phex

![]() Bump ! ![]() A file description tool which could handle multiple files at once would be golden in my opinion. Why multiple file descriptor? Example: 300 photos from a camping trip in mountains. Can describe 130 files as being waterfalls. Describe 100 as being forest pictures, 70 photos as beach, etc. Being able to view description of a file in search results should accompany this. |
