These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

I also believe developers should make some efforts toward educating users of their software how file-sharing networks work and what steps a responsible file-sharer should do to help keep file-sharing networks (and torrents) alive. There seems to have been too much general bad education about p2p networks via paid google adverts from scam companies selling free p2p file-sharing softwares. Such scam companies advertise free software, music, video, and everything else, plus lifetime membership. (Giving the wrong idea about p2p file-sharing from the beginning.) Of course, these companies change address and name every 6-24 months. But their bad influence still seems to be living on, probably by word of mouth. People who use p2p file-sharing networks need to be properly educated from the very beginning. Incorporating some kind of education about this within the program setup, might have some effect, but also the help menu and support program folder documents. Occasional *Reminders* pop-up menus with such special messages would be ideal. To my understanding, p2p file-sharing was not supposed to be about obtaining money in any form or fashion. It was not supposed to be about cheating copyright. It was not supposed to be a con. It was supposed to be a genuine way of sharing of files others might be interested in. And that includes any kind of file format. I first started sharing a few of my previous band's music on the network last decade. It was not copyright, it was our own non-contract compositions. And I found other music of the same. Would be nice to go back to then. But seems companies are being paid substantial amounts of money to destroy file-sharing in any form regardless and in many cases illegally. But of course the USA government turns a blind eye to that because it suits them when it does damage to other countries' economies by putting companies out of action temporarily. Would you vote for a government that allows trojans, virus, and backdoor scripts to steal your identity to be spread to you and your relatives and your neighbors computers every day? Yep, an hour ago I noticed multiple attempts from a varied Washington ip range (a network) trying to access my file-sharing program. Hello President, are you really in control? Or is big business sponsoring too much money for you to be a *real person* ? Or simply their robot? I am glad my ip firewall also has a TO disallow option, which will obviously help for my shares, as I noticed big blocks there to Washington. What is Washington willing to share with us? Honesty? Or are they freeloaders of honesty; no files of honesty exists in their shares. |

I'm not sure. There are what is known as seedboxes, which is where multiple users are joined together. Some information here Seedbox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. That might explain the multiple vendors issue. Though I have never seen that before. Seedboxes I've come across before were usually named with linux in it somewhere. By the looks though, and I might be wrong, the file is one of those free-to-distribute, non-copyright files made available to the public from time to time to help advertise a particular music or video or literary artist. From memory FrostClick is involved in this kind of media distribution. Vuse/Azureus does something similar or with samples of larger work. I am not sure how FrostClick works but the FW site might even help kick-start some such torrents. Should you remove it? If your ratio on it is good and you feel uncomfortable about it then perhaps yes. Via Vuse I've had some super good ratios on such files but they eventually lose popularity because of not being a recent release and the publicity surrounding it getting hidden by time. |

Looks like The Cosmonaut is indeed a Frostclick file: http://www.frostclick.com/wp/index.p...the-cosmonaut/ There's some info in this older thread - maybe it's the same kind of thing that shapeshifter910 is talking about: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/frostw...w-malware.html I remember ages ago there a similar thing happening with LW, where a file (in that case the file in question was the latest LW version) in the .networkshare folder was being shared without users' knowledge. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/frostw...tml#post360419 ... yeah that is one annoying thing about FrostClick. Click anywhere on the main window even by mistake and you are instantly downloading a torrent. There should have been a clearly marked designated area to click, not the entire window. And Gubatron went off his rocker, including post #23. To the contrary, I found many a nasty post by moderators and users on their forums. I guess he just found life outside of the FW forums scary. Agoraphobia? |

Hi there folks, long time I didn't come here. No agoraphobia, just troll-phobia. I was just reading that old thread, and we've fixed the way those promotions work now, when you hover you are clearly shown the actions you can perform on them, you can preview, download, go to the social media pages behind them. As for seeding settings, it's up to the user and always up to the user wether or not to seed finished downloads. In the beginning we had set downloads to be automatically seeded (and shared in gnutella back when we still supported gnutella) but then came the feds and threw at us an injunction order and forced us not to do that, so no malware, just big government regulation doing extensive (anal probing) quality assurance on our software, you know, to protect people's privacy (while on the other hand they're spying on everybody, but that's another story #NSA #Prism) Let us know if we can help. |
