Default FrostWire - Permissions Error?

Hello Everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with FrostWire that just started a few days ago. I'm getting an error that claims I do not have permission for the application to write to files. I don't know how else to explain it, but I'm posting a screenshot of what I'm seeing on startup.

Ordinarily, I'm not sure it would be a major issue, but it keeps displaying throughout the FrostWire session. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my machine configuration, or if it is a bug in the program. I do know that I am not seeing the error in LimeWire.

Steps Taken in an attempt to resolve the issue:
- Running as Admin.
- Verified Admin permissions.
- Verified System Permissions.
- Checked permissions of the "FrostWire" folder in Program Files directory. Full Control already granted to System and Admin. (No changes were made)
- Checked permissions of the ".frostWire" folder in Documents and Settings\(user) directory. Full Control already granted to System and Admin. (No changes were made)

Machine Specs:
- AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (Not Overclocked)
- 1 GB DDR400 RAM (Corsair XMS - Matched Pair)
- Abit AN7 w/nForce2 ChipSet (v5.10 Drivers)
- ATi All-In-Wonder X800XT (AGP; v5.9 Drivers)

- Windows XP SP2 (All Updates from Microsoft Update, including latest release from yesterday, 11/8/2005.)

Any suggestions I may have overlooked? Could this be a program bug, especially since it does not appear in LW?
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Try deleting your FW preferences folder whilst FW is closed; found here: C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\FrostWire

the folder is entirely hidden, you need to revail it in Folder Option in Control Panel, then click on View, then look for Hidden Folder and File, then click Show hidden file and folder, then click ok

No luck.. The settings I have posted below are default on my box. I'm guessing this is clearly a problem - any ideas on how to let FrostWire write that folder?

(edited for future reference) Try deleting your FW preferences folder whilst FW is closed; found here: C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\FrostWire
(see image example below of how to find & delete ... double-check folder location before deleting folder)

Then use your search engine & search for frostwire. It worked for me "after" I changed visibility mode. Make sure in your search options that it will search for invisible files & folders as shown below. (I've shown 2 options for sending the FW preferences to the recycle bin.)

Vista location is: C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Roaming\FrostWire

Still no dice. The only one I found is the one in program files. Thank you for the tip though.. I may have to just live with it. A complete reinstall and cleaning of FrostWire entries in the registry hasn't helped. I'm genuinely stumped.

In my experience in helping this identical problem with LW is that a total re-installation of Java, FW & deletion of the prefs fixes it.

By uninstalling Java I mean, use the add/remove control panel to remove Java. Then use the "Offline" installer for Java. If that doesn't fix it, then uninstall it again & instead, install Java 1.4.2 ("offline")
Use the LW reference link point #1 Fixes for Limewire for Java version links.

Delete the FW prefs folder as discussed. (Don't have a clue why you can't find it.)

Reinstall FW. If necessary, uninstall it from the Start menu>Programs>FW>Uninstall. If all fails ... Then get the "Other" version which you simply unzip & use.

(Sorry, I reposted because I realised I forgot to include a sample image duh sorry! I didn't realise you had responded!)
