just alittle FYI: there are currently no entries placed in the registry by frostwire. if there are entries in the registry, they are not used by frostwire and are used by the WinOS which are harmless and do not effect the way FW performs.

No go. Reinstall of Java and FW hasn't corrected the problem. (I never found entries in the registry - meant to say that I looked for them and didn't find any. That's what I get for posting late at night.) Unfortunately, I have the same issue with the "other download" version as well.

I'm not going to install Java 1.4.2 because that's a downgrade and has known security issues.

As far as I can tell, FW still works, but as long as the error is non-specific, then I can't do much more than I already have. I really wish it would provide details. That would at least be useful.

Thanks very much for the help guys, I really do appreciate your efforts. Thank you especially to Lord of the Rings - your tips are useful for more than just solving this issue.

Default Permissions Error (Windows 7 Fix)

Hello and Greetings!

I also was having this issue for one of my clients. He is using 64 bit version of Windows 7. I thought I would post what I did to get past the "permissions issues":

Uninstalled java + FW...
Ran installer as administrator...
During the installer it asked where to install program...
I clicked browse and told it to install in the /Program Files (x86)/FrostWire
continued the installer without issues or error.
The default location that the program was installing to is restricted by the Windows Account control...once you specify the correct folder, the program runs without issues. This is something I think the authors of the program
(FrostWire) should take into consideration during their next update release...

Cheers
