Say, we have a Limewire rip [fork] around here

I have noticed that FrostWire is exactly equal yo LimeWire in GUI, Performance, icons, everything, even the splash screen is almost the same, so, i ask,
Do we have a Limewire rip rounding up in Gnutella?

Dark Guy March 21st, 2007 01:16 PM

I have another thing that certifies it:
Look at the link, i told Fw to use Bitzi, and look at the referrer of the link
http://bitzi.com/lookup/SILK63UZXTJV...4?ref=limewire
It spoofs everyone showing up it's Lw

I'm only using it for comparing purposes

wondering why March 21st, 2007 03:46 PM

check out the sticky http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=46086

Although the FrostWire web site has changed, the above sticky explains the relationship between FrostWire and LimeWire.

Yes, much of the code is identical. This is legal, and any additions FW makes to the LW code are available for LimeWire to also use.

So -- no worries. Both are legitimate projects.

Ok, then, so now that LimeWire has been bought by some evil company, my suports now go to FrostWire, i'll leave Lw as a closed chapter on my very big life book, opening a new one to FrostWire, and thanks to Stief for clearing the mess up

And i wonder who edited the title of the thread?
(I mean, which of the administrators)

stief March 22nd, 2007 12:09 AM

As noted at the bottom of the 1st post, I edited the thread title for clarity--feel free to edit it again if you prefer.

Oh, LimeWire is still run by the good guys, so no fear: it's still safe to use.

cheers

But i don't want to handle that emotional pressure

When Limewire gets totally absorbed by the bad guys at iMesh (Mother...) because i will get too used to it too much, i'll not support it ans start crying, the client that maked all this P2p mess up by being the product of reverse-engineering (Yeah, Lw is product of cracking and reverse-engineering a nullsoft program that disappeared a day after it was released) is going to leave Gnutella forever, leaving FrostWire as it's only descendant and continuer of the history....
Limewire is going to be :death:
:rip: to LimeWire

Hope this helps to clear things up ...

regarding Limewire & Frostwire ...

"The project was started in September 2005 by members of the LimeWire open-source community, after LimeWire's distributor considered placing "blocking" code which it was developing in response to RIAA pressure and the threat of legal action in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in MGM Studios, Inc. v. Grokster, Ltd. When eventually activated, the code could block its users from sharing licensed files. FrostWire was first released in October 2005.

FrostWire is based outside the United States, possibly to avoid legal liability. The FrostWire team has stated that they will never use "blocking" code similar to that which is used in LimeWire."

Those 2 paragraphs are quoted from Wikipedia, and I have checked the accuracy. No evil or malicious companies are taking over P2P, so all can relax.

Kool men, i will chill-out, you cleared things too much for me, thanks
