Default Speed problem (slow download speed)

Hi all
I'm having a BIG problem with speed.
I have everything configured right (I think). I used manual port forward because my router doesn't support UPnP. In the bottom left, it shows a globe with NO brick wall in front, and a "Turbo-Charged Connection" I was downloading a file and it said it was connected to 10 hosts. But it was going at like 4 KB/s. That's pretty dang slow. Does anyone know why? The only thing I can think of is that I haven't downloaded a single file yet (why? Cause it's so dang slow ) and I saw somewhere in the options something about a freeloader setting or something. Would that be it?

Thanks!
Chandler

Please answer these questions (where it says LimeWire, or LW, just substitute Frostwire!).
System details - help us to help you

Download a file from here & see what speed you get.

Sorry about that, guess I just wasn't thinking.

1. OS version? XP
2. What firewalls you have? Sygate PFP
3. How much ram? 1 gig
4. Hard Disk space available? 8 gig on HDD1 (windows) about 150 gig on HDD2
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) Fiber Optic line. 15 mbps up and down
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Linksys WRT54g V5 flashed with DD-WRT v23 SP1 micro build
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? My house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. FW version: 4.13.1 Java version: 1.5.0_11
9. Who is your ISP provider (Internet Service Provider)? Mstarmetro
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It works, but only because the port is open for another program
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. Between 3 and 4 other computers running off of the Linksys. This is the only one with p2 AFAIK.
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. 1st try at FW
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Nope

Thanks. Sorry I didn't provide this before.

Your ISP might be throttling p2p.
broadband help » Forums » Fiber Optic » MstarMetro throttling p2p connections

What speed did you get when you downloaded a magnetmix file? Slow speeds there can be a pointer to an ISP throttling.

Try changing ports. Use something between 49152-65535 (a few people use 64049). You can change FW's listening port via tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Any ports forwarded within a router will have to change as well

it also depends on who you download from - example I use a modem and if there are ten hosts it was downloading from (odd because i can only download from 2 at a time) and they are all dialup users, your download is going to go slow.. my guess tho, you were connected to 2 dialup hosts or hosts who were extremely busy and or didn't set the uploads slots and bandwidth just right. Us dialup users can only upload at 1 - 2k a second which is slow, plus that i have my uploads and downloads at 2.52kbps each with about 1kbps for everything else and sometimes when surfing it takes some more bandwidth and then i see 0kbps uploading, however once is still uploading from me, also some hosts don't connect well to me and or it takes a bit longer to go from 0 to 1kbps, esp. on large files i've downloaded as i am getting the hash thing and getting synced with a ton of other people downloading the files from others oh and i have 2 slots open (1kbps for each) and only 1 upload per person... once i do get higher speed i will open up more slots..

Bug again, it all depends on who you are downloading from and since you cannot see who you are downloading from at the moment or so and cannot see their bandwidth then your at a loss and has to guess oh and many people lie about their bandwidth and say they have more than they actually have..

Example: some modem cable/dsl users could say they were T1 or T3 when they are not..
