Default What did i delete that makes a bad connection????

Hi, i was wondering if someone could help me. I was going through the computer the other day and i was deleting a few things. I think i have deleted something that was important for Frostwire and utorrent. I have re-installed Frostwire and event tried Limewire a few times. I have also re-installed Java but nothing seems to work. I can open frostwire but i can only get one bar, and at even then a pop-up comes saying that Frostmire cannot detect a internet connect, and that it might be a firewall so to try restarting. It never seems to work. I have norton and windows and i had went through both of them and they don't block Frostwire or Utorrent.

I didn't delete anything to do with the firewall and they have never been a problem before. I have been using Limewire/Frostwire for about a year now. And i have went through a lot of other threads and tried the test and it was fine. Can someone help please. Thank you

You only need one firewall running. Norton & Windows firewalls are reknown for causing problems with each other, resulting in less security not more, plus other problems. So disable your Windows firewall via Control panel, double click on Windows Firewall, check the disable box. Now for Norton, you need to re-add firewall rules each time either Norton or FW/LW updates occur. Configuring Norton Internet Security or Reconfiguring Norton Firewall

You may need to delete your previous FW preferences folder. This should only be done whilst FW is closed. How to find & delete FrostWire's Preferences folder

If further problems see User Cant Connect - LimeWire as the same rules apply to FW. Let us know how things go.

Hi, it didnt work. Nothing worked. I did what you said and disabled the windows firwall and then went to Norton and i couldnt find exactly what it was to allow LW/FW so what i done was i just disabled Norton (its has expired anyway.) but i disabled it and tryed to start FW. When i did the wall was still in front of the globe and i still only have one bar at the connection. I can't search anything.

So i tried users can't connect, and i'm not sure if my router (is it the wireless thing?? lol) has a firewall or not and how do i find it? But what if that doesn't work?

Thanks for the help,
cat

Yes, your router most likely will have an internal NAT which behaves like a firewall in many ways by helping to block out unwanted traffic.

Can you find out the model of your 2wire device?

BTW you should be able to log into your 2wire device via your browser. Replace the entire address line, & type in 172.16.0.1 & that should take you to the router's control centre. Else try the ip of 192.168.1.254 in the address bar of your browser.

Knowing which model you have will help us to give you specific instructions on how to forward a port. After looking at the 2wire port forwarding instructions, it seems it actually requires program specific information to be included in the firewall rule. So chances are your 2wire is one of the main issues behind your connection problems.

Hi i think the model is bt2700hgv 2wire.

Replace the entire address line(is that at the top the page where the wedsite addy goes??), & type in 172.16.0.1 & that should take you to the router's control centre. -- I didn't know how to do that but i did do the other one and it was all set at the proper settings but still no luck. I even went through the dhcp mode on my computer and changed the firewall settings to all - access.

So i was searching around and one said that i should download Windows Server 2003. and that should fix the problem. Do you think if i bought it and downloaded it, would it work.

please help.

Thanks
